Uptown New Yorkers getting informed & taking action, neighbor by neighbor, potluck by potluck, to defend democracy & protect our rich cultural diversity.
Mayor Adams’ campaign fundraiser tonight was crashed by protester @DorcaNYC with @PeoplesPlanNYC who criticized his rhetoric on migrants and his budget cuts. He engaged for a while, asking if SHE’D spent a night at a shelter like he has.
NEW: @NYSenateDems formally reject Hector LaSalle in a letter mandated by state law notifying @GovKathyHochul of the judge’s rejection for chief judge.
The New York Senate judiciary committee has rejected Gov Hochul’s anti-choice, anti-labor, anti-“dark skinned” black jurors choice for chief judge of New York, Hector LaSalle.
So I guess Hochul made an ass of herself on MLK day for nothing.

NEW: Over 70 Latinx leaders speak out against Justice LaSalle's nomination for Chief Judge, saying: "We find his nomination to run counter to our values as allies to the labor rights, reproductive health, and immigrant rights movements."

Lawmakers, academics, and advocates have already discussed why LaSalle is the wrong choice for New York on labor, repro rights, and criminal legal reform. I want to draw attention to another worrying aspect of his record: ethics and transparency (1/11).
The map below is busy, but it shows the overlap b/w the @NYS_IRC plans from Jan and Dec 2022. Crosshatching represents the 105 districts that match exactly.

The NYS Public Campaign Finance program is designed to maximize the impact of small, local donations. $5 is all it takes to begin to be eligible for matching funds. pcfb.ny.gov/
Members of @nydems state committee have drafted a letter to @GovKathyHochul urging her to change the leadership of state party by replacing @JayJacobs28
Hundreds have signed onto the letter including sitting elected’s in both houses of the legislature
As of this moment, I am personally spearheading a campaign to replace Jay Jacobs.
New York Democrats deserve so much better, and I’ve had enough.
Please DM me if you would like to help!
(And yes, this means defeating @andrewcuomo once again.)
He single-handedly may have lost the house for the Democrats. He also looked the other way when Republicans spent millions of dollars to defeat ballot proposals that would’ve brought us same day registration and no excuse absentee voting like many other states.
