For every pedestrian KSI involving a cycle, there were 24 involving a car. Highway Code campaigns should focus on the need for drivers to show more care towards pedestrians; few are reported seriously injured by cyclists. See AVZ briefing: actionvisionzero.org/2026/04…

In collisions between cars and cycles, DfT stats show a cyclist is 329 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured than is a car occupant. It is time to reform our civil compensation system and introduce presumed liability. See AVZ's briefing: actionvisionzero.org/2026/04…

Good to see launch of 10 Asks for Safer Streets by Better Streets for Liverpool. The asks focus on changes that can make a real difference in reducing numbers of road casualties AND make the region a great place to walk, wheel and cycle. Short video: drive.google.com/file/d/1z-A…

New @TfL London Speed Limit map just out. Shows huge coverage of 20mph limits (in green). NB 69% of road casualties in London are on main roads ("A"/"B" classified) so great to see TfL and many boroughs bringing in 20mph on these roads too. Open the app to drill down tfl.maps.arcgis.com/apps/ins…

Sentencing Act 2026 reforms mean prison-already only used in less than 1% of motoring offences-will now no longer be an option except for the most serious cases of dangerous driving and causing death or serious injury by impaired driving. See our briefing actionvisionzero.org/2026/03…

Great to see launch of TfL's Vision Zero Action Plan 2. Its strength is that it is about actions (not just words) and the actions cover what's important in reducing road casualties inc. vehicle speeds, safe high streets, enforcement and traffic reduction content.tfl.gov.uk/vision-ze…

It is neither inevitable nor acceptable that anyone is killed on London’s roads. Today’s Vision Zero Action Plan launch at LAS HART Resilience Hub reinforces my commitment to ending road deaths. There is more to do, but every step matters to make our city safer.

New AVZ blog looks at the impact of (drivers who) Fail to Stop - the vast majority of those injured or killed are people walking or cycling. Once again the justice system fails these victims with most offences only resulting in a relatively small fine. actionvisionzero.org/2026/03…

Part of our series "Who’s getting hurt on the roads", this blog looks at who tends to get hurt in drink drive crashes. Analysis shows drink driving is a threat to car occupants but is not a lead source of harm to active road users, especially not cyclists actionvisionzero.org/2026/02…

The successful pedestrianisation of the Grand-Place in Brussels transformed it from a congested car park into a beautiful square. It now hosts major cultural highlights like the Flower Carpet and the Winter Wonders Christmas market. Brave decisions can transform the world!

This kind of car-centric infrastructure in a city centre is as a relic of a transport experiment that went wrong. Big roads and mega junctions have no place in busy cities. A good step is making crossing them in one go much easier. But it’d be better to remove them altogether.
The James Watt Queensway "super crossing" project in particular aims to improve walking, cycling and public transport connectivity into the city's Knowledge Quarter and Aston University campus. Details: bbc.in/4kH3sxB
