8 Premier League sides entered into European competition this season and one, just one reached the semi finals… Aston Villa in the Conference League via a penalty shootout. Given the discrepancy in spending over the last few years, this is nothing short of a humiliation for the League. I’ve never been a fan of making sweeping statements on the quality of an entire League off knockout games… But I do hope this puts an end to the condescending, patronising and dismissive attitude towards other European Leagues in this country.
