Watergate was a simpler time. Gerald Ford's concern that prosecuting Nixon would 'tear the country apart' was due in part to the fact that Americans still venerated the presidency and elected leaders in general. Perhaps that was naive. The fact that Nixon was not prosecuted ushered in an era of belief in the imperial presidency that was not at all what our founders envisioned. It also paved the way for the concerns today that prosecuting a former president who has committed a multitude of crimes small and large will 'tear the country apart.' It was probably a mistake not to prosecute Nixon and it was in many ways the easier course not to. But Trump's crimes would make Nixon blush. And if we truly believe no man is above the law we must demonstrate it.

It's time for Congress to secure protections for LGTBQI Americans once and for all by passing the Equality Act. No one should ever face discrimination or live in fear because of who they are or whom they love.

Replying to @Morning_Joe
@Morning_Joe @morningmika @JoeNBC Why on earth are you talking about shifting priorities in the US with only one age group represented? Millennials are more focused on making money because we have too. We don't have a choice.

It's also hard to put religion on the high priority list when you're working 2 jobs, and neither offer health insurance. After 10 years, you still have $150k in student loans on your bachelors and masters degrees. Good degrees that should have led to a great job.

We don't need God or more patriotism, we need money and healthcare. When you struggle to keep a roof over your head, it's hard to feel very patriotic. Wanna fix these things, hold big business accountable.

One in five small businesses have closed. More than 25 million Americans are on unemployment. Millions are at risk of losing their homes. But President Trump doesn’t seem to care. He only cares about how he and his wealthy friends are doing.

I want every member of the LGBTQ community to know you are loved and accepted just as you are — whether you've come out or not. I'll fight every day in the White House to create a country where you can live open, proud, and free — without fear. #NationalComingOutDay

A number of deaths rivaling the death toll of a major war could have been prevented, if the president had been as truthful with the American people as he was with Bob Woodward. He has not kept us safe. He cannot. He will not.
