Hey UW, thanks for 6 years.

I was recently asked to give a short presentation on the work I've done so far during my PhD. Despite being only two years in, it was a trip down memory lane browsing through photos. These are a few that made the final cut. 1000's of data points, 3 continents, and lots of stories

Ability to work on just a laptop without an extra monitor is an underrated skill (that I no longer possess)

In 2020 I marched in support of the BLM movement. I can’t help but recall how safe and supported I felt expressing my opinion UNTIL police showed up and started threatening people with riot gear and tear gas. Its clear things haven’t changed and free speech is still not supported
Pushing between protesters and police growing more intense.

Exciting start to CDU’s Inland Water Carbon Workshop! Lots of presentations on a range of types of ecosystems and species of carbon with plenty of potential for collaboration

Field ecologists!! this is your anual reminder before traveling for the holidays to clean out your backpack. They may be useful in the field, but TSA doesn’t like pocket knives/ box cutters, large quantities of zip ties and plastic bags, too many tools, etc

“K can be a bit of a challenge…” Well done @AdamRexroade!!
At #ASLO2023 and interested in how well we are quantifying how quickly CO2 is emitted to the atmosphere from streams? Stop by session SS067 today at 3pm and where I’ll be giving a talk! #ASLO23

spelling your name wrong on your presentation: embarrassing but not the end of the world spelling your name wrong on a flight reservation: the worst over-the-phone customer service experience you will ever have #aslo23

We’ve sampled 50 tropical streams in just 10 days (and we aren’t done yet). What did it take? Lots of planning and labeling tape, ~4000km of driving and 6 wheels of cheese @ClementDuvert

Big milestone amid the chaos of field season-passed my confirmation of candidatura and officially became a PhD student. Thank you to everyone who laughed at my jokes, even if they weren’t funny

For the second time in my life on a January 6th I am unable to focus on anything other than CSPAN due to absolute chaos on the US House Floor

2022 writing retreat is complete! Couldn’t have done it without the amazing culinary skills of these colleagues (and of course the wine)

5 days in the desert and we only had to put on three spare tires and dig the truck out once

I had my first “swooping” experience today. I unknowingly sat down near a bird nest and was promptly attacked. Dropped my phone and water bottle in a panic and had to have a more experienced Australian help me get them back. Large scary birds? Not exactly 🤦🏼‍♂️

Off-road driving training is going well…“You’re gonna learn how to drive sideways up a hill and across raging rivers. You’re ALSO going to simultaneously learn how to drive a manual”
