I was recently asked to give a short presentation on the work I've done so far during my PhD. Despite being only two years in, it was a trip down memory lane browsing through photos. These are a few that made the final cut. 1000's of data points, 3 continents, and lots of stories
In 2020 I marched in support of the BLM movement. I can’t help but recall how safe and supported I felt expressing my opinion UNTIL police showed up and started threatening people with riot gear and tear gas. Its clear things haven’t changed and free speech is still not supported
Exciting start to CDU’s Inland Water Carbon Workshop! Lots of presentations on a range of types of ecosystems and species of carbon with plenty of potential for collaboration
Field ecologists!! this is your anual reminder before traveling for the holidays to clean out your backpack. They may be useful in the field, but TSA doesn’t like pocket knives/ box cutters, large quantities of zip ties and plastic bags, too many tools, etc

We’ve sampled 50 tropical streams in just 10 days (and we aren’t done yet). What did it take? Lots of planning and labeling tape, ~4000km of driving and 6 wheels of cheese @ClementDuvert
Big milestone amid the chaos of field season-passed my confirmation of candidatura and officially became a PhD student. Thank you to everyone who laughed at my jokes, even if they weren’t funny
I had my first “swooping” experience today. I unknowingly sat down near a bird nest and was promptly attacked. Dropped my phone and water bottle in a panic and had to have a more experienced Australian help me get them back. Large scary birds? Not exactly 🤦🏼♂️
Off-road driving training is going well…“You’re gonna learn how to drive sideways up a hill and across raging rivers. You’re ALSO going to simultaneously learn how to drive a manual”
