Today is the 11th anniversary of Light Yagami's death. Light is killed in the Yellow Box Warehouse when Ryuk writes his name in his own Death Note. This fulfils the promise Ryuk made when the two first met.

remember when Netflix literally denied an Asian man the role of Light Yagami, hired a white guy, changed his last name to Turner and colonized the whole movie into an American edgelord love story?? I am not looking forward to how they handle Avatar in the slightest.

Obha and Obata have returned to write a Death Note special chapter. The 87 page oneshot will be released in the February issue of Jump SQ.

A musical based on Death Note was workshopped in New York in 2014. It has since been performed in Japan (2015, 2017), South Korea (2015, 2017), and Taiwan (2017).

Beyond Birthday is a popular character of the franchise, despite only appearing in the spinoff novel Death Note: Another Note.
The spinoff novel is set in Los Angeles, and would be good material for an American adaptation of the franchise, if one were ever created.

Death Note: Light Up the NEW World (2016) is a film sequel to the New Generation miniseries. It is set 10 years after the original Kira case, and follows a three-way battle over six notebooks.

Death Note: New Generation (2016) is a sequel to the 2006 films. The three part miniseries introduces L’s successor Ryuzaki, an investigator called Mishima, and cyberterrorist Shien - the “new generation” of the Kira case.
