PLATYMANTIS GUITING FOUND IN ROMBLON
A new frog species smaller than a microSD card has been discovered in Romblon, underscoring what the DENR described as a sustained need to conserve protected landscapes.
The DENR-Mimaropa said Friday, May 1, that Filipino researchers from the University of Kansas have officially described Platymantis guiting.
The forest frog, found only within the Romblon Island Group, measures an average of 14 millimeters, or a little over half an inch, in length and is among the smallest frogs in the Philippines, the DENR said.
The discovery, published in the Raffles Bulletin of Zoology on April 14, was led by researchers Camila Meneses, Kier Mitchel Pitogo, Syrus Cesar Decena, Christian Supsup and Rafe Brown. 📸: Camila Meneses
