If you invested $1000 in SanDisk in April 2025, you would now have over $65,000. 🔥

The end of Dennard scaling may be the most important event in modern computing that most software engineers have never heard of. Before it ended, smaller transistors generally meant more performance without a proportional increase in power. After it ended, the industry spent two decades working around that loss.

you start GPU programming thinking you'll spend your time writing brilliant CUDA kernels and optimizing matrix multiplies. you end up spending 90% of your career staring at nsight compute timelines trying to figure out why your L1 cache hit rate dropped by 4%.

branch prediction, register renaming, speculative execution, store buffers, μop translation. a huge amount of modern CPU complexity exists to maintain a simple illusion: that your instructions run in order, one at a time, like the ISA says. you write x86. the CPU translates it into something else and gets on with its day.

If you're still holding Bitcoin or Ethereum right now, you're already ahead of most people. This is what conviction looks like. > Stocks down. > Crypto down. > Gold down. > Silver down. > Private markets frozen. > IPO market struggling. Yet you're still here. > Still learning. > Still building. > Still investing. Most people quit when markets get hard. The people who win are the ones who stay in the game long enough. Patience is an edge. Survival is an edge. Keep showing up. Your future self will thank you.

half the world's observability is cat on /proc files that aren't really files, parsed with regexes, in formats nobody designed, that break when the kernel adds a column. /proc started as a debugging convenience. It became a load-bearing text API. an alarming amount of the monitoring industry is downstream of kernel printfs from the 90s.

Roughly two-thirds of the Linux kernel is device drivers. The operating system part is smaller than most people think. Linux's real advantage isn't elegance it's decades of accumulated hardware support. linux doesn't just run on a lot of hardware. In many ways, Linux is the hardware support. The OS comes along for the ride.

🚨BREAKING: The U.S. government has reportedly forced Anthropic to shut down its newest AI model worldwide. Claude Fable 5 was disabled for all users just days after launch following an order from Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick directing Anthropic to suspend the model immediately. The concern? Fable 5 is reportedly the first public AI capable of autonomously discovering and exploiting critical software vulnerabilities at a level far beyond previous systems. It scored 78% on cybersecurity benchmarks, nearly double the previous state of the art. According to reports, officials believe a jailbreak method may exist that could remove safety restrictions and turn the model into an offensive cyber weapon. Anthropic disagreed with the decision, arguing the vulnerability was limited, already achievable with other public models, and that shutting down an entire frontier model over a narrow risk could set a precedent affecting the entire AI industry. This isn't the first clash between Anthropic and the U.S. government. The Pentagon previously labeled the company a supply-chain risk an unprecedented move against a U.S. AI company. A federal judge later blocked that designation. Now the fight has returned through export-control powers, a legal route that is significantly harder to challenge. Anthropic unveiled Fable 5 on June 9, calling it the most capable model in its history. Three days later, it was gone.

a simple benchmark showing memory hierarchy latency. the code performs the same dependent pointer chase at four working-set sizes. the only thing that changes is whether the data fits in L1, L2, L3, or spills to DRAM. on my machine: 1.5ns → 5.1ns → 35ns → 134ns per load.

Itanium (2001–2021). a processor built on one beautiful idea: the compiler would schedule everything statically at build time. it asked the compiler to predict the future. the compiler declined. out-of-order CPUs predicted it at runtime instead, and won. survived by x86-64, the architecture it was supposed to replace.

we named it random access memory (RAM). then we built three levels of cache, prefetchers, data-oriented design, and an entire performance-engineering discipline whose whole purpose is making sure nobody accesses it randomly.
