Egypt 🇪🇬 will not be permitted to wear their World Cup jersey featuring the stars. FIFA has ordered them to remove the stars before their opening match against Belgium. The gold colour on the players’ names and numbers must also be changed. The stars represent Egypt’s record seven AFCON titles.

In 2008, an African grey parrot called Yosuke escaped from his cage and went missing near Tokyo. Police found him and tried for hours to make him speak, but the bird stayed completely silent. Two days later, while at a veterinary clinic, he suddenly spoke up: “I’m Yosuke Nakamura,” before clearly reciting his full home address. The vet alerted the police, who went to the exact location and located the Nakamura family. The owners explained they had spent two years teaching him his name and address just in case he ever got lost. Yosuke was happily reunited with his family after showing he simply didn’t feel like talking to the cops.

Zambia 🇿🇲 has successfully executed the world’s first $1.36 billion debt-for-development swap. The country repurchased its $1.365 billion Eurobond maturing in 2053, with 97.85% of investors approving the deal. The African Development Bank is extending a $600 million concessional loan to facilitate the transaction. In return, Zambia will channel up to $275 million over the next 15 years into modernising its electricity grid and reducing power outages. The landmark agreement cuts debt servicing costs while tying the savings directly to concrete development outcomes.

Ghana 🇬🇭 has officially protested and threatened legal action against Canada after authorities denied a World Cup visa to Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey. The country insists the decision is unfair and violates the principle of innocent until proven guilty, while demanding that the visa refusal be urgently reviewed before their opening match against Panama.

Ghana has stated that Thomas Partey’s visa denial will not disrupt their preparations for the World Cup ahead of their clash against Panama. FIFA confirmed that Canadian authorities rejected his entry, stressing that immigration decisions are solely the responsibility of host nations. Ghana’s Sports Minister Kofi Adams insisted the incident will not affect the team’s morale. Partey, who now plays for Villarreal, is facing multiple rape and sexual assault charges linked to alleged incidents between 2020 and 2022. He has denied all charges and is scheduled to face trial next year.

Haiti 🇭🇹 has been ordered to redesign its 2026 World Cup jersey after FIFA turned down the original version. The kit featured silhouettes of people raising the national flag, inspired by the Battle of Vertières and the country’s independence war. FIFA ruled the imagery too political under its equipment regulations. This will be Haiti’s first World Cup appearance in 52 years, since their last participation in 1974. Haiti is the first Black-led republic in history, established in 1804 by formerly enslaved people who defeated France in a revolution.
