Michael Phelps is literally referred to as a freak of nature because of his disproportionate wingspan, double jointed ankles, lung capacity twice that of an average human, body that produces half the lactic acid of a typical athlete, and he is rightly celebrated for being the greatest male swimmer in history. Meanwhile, female athletes with genetic differences are legally discriminated against and harassed to no end. This is not about “protecting women in sports” - this is about protecting a very specific idea of what a woman is.

Steven Van de Velde, a Dutch volleyball player who raped a 12 yr old girl in 2014, is competing at the Olympics. Israel, who have violated the Olympic Truce in continuing to bomb Gaza where thousands of women and girls have been killed, is competing at the Olympics. Yet the outrage is being spewed at cis female athletes who have naturally higher levels of T. It has never been about protecting women!!!!!

Not a single focus has even remotely close to talking about Gaza and the way that sport has been decimated there. What about Palestinian women?

And y'all go after a Brown Algerian woman bc she (fairly) beat a European opponent? I expect this after Caster Semenya. But the fact that the two being attacked are racialized, y'all just be telling on yourselves.

Women in sport see you. Intersex women. Hijab-wearing women. Trans women. Women who have survived genocide, and abuse. Marginalized women. Don't pretend to care about women when what you say really means: "Let's protect white and feminine types of women and sport".
