What a great day at the World Cup! Scotland grabbed a win in a must-win game. Australia put the much-fancied Turks to the sword. Morocco reminded the overhyped Brazil that Pele has now left the building.

We got to Baan Grood too early to check in so the Thai manager (whose husband comes from Birmingham) very kindly took us around to see what was now in Baan Grood and to a condo development owned by her Swedish boss. The one-bedroom apartments go for around 20,000 a month but you're a little bit middle-of-nowhere. 3.7 million to buy but negotiable (and it would certainly need to be). The apartments were a little bit 'cold' and Scandinavian for my liking but had potential. I would never rule out this part of the world for old-age retirement or if I suddenly needed a plan B.

For our Baan Grood digs we've chosen The Seascape Resort on the main beach road. A two-bedroom bungalow is about 1,500 baht a night (no breakfast included). It's a little bit 90s but perfectly OK for 4 nights. Great location!

The resort also has a bikers bar attached, which is popular with local bike clubs apparently. I'm expecting to hear a mighty roar of engines when darkness falls.

Scotland 1 Haiti 0. Someone tweeted "the best side lost". I'm not sure I'd disagree with that. But Scotland now with a great chance of the knockout stage.

Lot of friction in my wife's family at the moment. At the centre of it all is an aging mother making unfair demands on her children. There's an overwhelming mood of resentment on all sides. Thai families can be so complicated.

Also in the background is a 25-year-old nephew, who's finally come out of the closet. His traditionalist father (my wife's brother) is distraught. Men marry women and become doctors or lawyers. Those are the rules.

It was incredible. @drleighannjones
A spine tingling rendition of Flower of Scotland being belted out by The Tartan Army, before their first World Cup Finals game in 28 years. A moment that many have waited a lifetime for. 🥹🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️

We're taking the train to Baan Grood for a few days. I really like Apiwat Central Station. OK, it doesn't have the character and quirkiness of Hualampong, but sometimes all you want to do is find a seat, grab a coffee and some snacks, and then go to the correct platform and get on the correct train. Apiwat is better for all of those things than Hualampong ever was. @ThaiTrainGuide

Congratulations to PT Satun on their promotion to Thai League 2. This means that including Songkhla and Nara United, we now have three southern teams in the second tier next season.

USA absolutely battering Paraguay. 3-0 up at half-time and it could've been six. And what a stadium that is in Los Angeles. Packed to the rafters, fantastic atmosphere. This is about as good a first four games I've seen in any World Cup tournament. Brilliant start!

We're going to grab a few days down in Baan Grood tomorrow so I'm hoping for a good connection to watch the Scotland match on the way down - followed by Australia v Turkey. Not a bad way to kill a 5-hour train ride if it all goes to plan.

A point apiece in what they are calling 'The group of life' because it's the weakest qualifying group in the tournament. Kudos to the Canadian fans for creating a great atmosphere in Toronto.
It all ends level! 🤝 #FIFAWorldCup

Having a pop at the world cup for the sake of having a pop is getting so boring. I watched both games today and loved every minute. The brilliant Koreans, the red card drama, Raul Jimenez in tears after scoring his first world cup goal. I can't wait for tomorrow. If the stadiums were half empty, then we must have watched different games. All I saw was stands full of fans coming together like they always do. Apologies if that opinion doesn't fit the narrative.
A half empty stadium and hydration breaks during the World Cup. How could this happen to the beautiful game...

What an absolutely incredible month! Spent it with an amazing group of trainees from such a wide range of backgrounds and nationalities — Bhutan, the Philippines, Myanmar, Bangladesh, and of course the UK, Canada, and the USA. #SEETEFL #TEFL #TEFLThailand

We had a storm last night, the nest developed a hole and both chicks fell to the ground and died. Tun was quite tearful this morning after she found them. It was not the ending she'd hoped for. It was certainly not the ending she (or the chicks) deserved.
My wife has been looking after these birds nesting in the garden. One of the chicks fell to the ground a couple of days ago but Tun scooped him up carefully, placed it back into the nest and now it's almost ready to fly.
