šŸŽ—ļø Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. Never has it been more important to use the word suicide. Talking about suicide reduces the risk. It might not be an easy conversation, but if you are worried about a friend or loved one ask them. "Are you thinking about suicide?" šŸ”„

Pitch / Stadium update: - At the moment, the wind and rain is battering the North East. Another 20mm of rain due to fall on Pittodrie between now and KO and wind currently gusting around about 60/65mph. - Despite that, at the moment, the stadium is holding up fairly well. Not too much damage so far, other than some signage. - Pitch is wet, but is draining pretty satisfactorily at this stage. We have our ground staff, when they aren't blowing about the place, on standby should any quick remedial work be required (when the wind eventually eases). - Better news is that the worst of the weather is between now and 3.30pm, before it calms down quite a fair bit: bbc.co.uk/weather/2657832 - As we stand now, with the forecast as it is, things are good to go. If anything changes for the worst, we'll update in as much time as possible...

Update: MATCH OFF Whilst much of Pittodrie has been battered by significant rain and gale force winds, the stadium itself and the pitch have coped admirably well. However, as all major (and most minor) roads became flooded and/or unpassable, or damaged due to fallen trees, and with rail services being cancelled north of Dundee, it was clear it was going to be a very difficult ask for many supporters of both clubs to safely get to Pittodrie. We remained in dialogue with all stakeholders and after putting our case across strongly to the league, it has been agreed between the two clubs, the league and Police Scotland that it is safer to rearrangeĀ theĀ game.

Desperately sorry for every Dons fan (we had sold out the Bob Shankley Stand with over 3,000 due to be there) who made the trip to Dundee, only for the game to be called off just before 2pm. We checked with our opponents earlier in the morning and were assured the pitch was fine. It was therefore a surprise and bitter disappointment that we’ve ultimately not got a game to play. Games going off at this time of year isn’t the biggest issue (albeit with the calendar so congested, it’s not helpful in the slightest). Giving supporters as much notice, even as a precaution, as possible should be absolutely paramount. Collectively, we’ve got to be much, much better. Sorry once again to all those who have bought tickets and made the journey.

Our game with Dundee this afternoon has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and concerns over player safety.

I hope you will indulge a rare personal (but long) post from me, rather than something work related. It was a year ago today that @emma_burrows16 and I were told that we had lost our baby unexpectedly. We went for a 12-week scan full of hope, excitement and anticipation of our family growing, and Eva being a big sister, only to have that shattered. Complications arose afterwards too, but my wife was incredibly brave and strong to get through it in hospital. The pain of it was intense, even more so for Emma. It was difficult for me too, but nothing can compare to her. And it is again today. Sadly, we experienced the same thing again just last summer, and all in all, it's been a pretty tough twelve months for both of us, coping with that and other changes. One thing that really struck me, as we have both been quite open about what happened on both occasions, was the amount of folk who very kindly reached out in sympathy, explaining it had happened to them too and offering support. In fact, I was taken aback by the volume of folk who had experienced the same pain as we had. It was very sobering. The purpose of this post is, I suppose, to get it off my chest but more so, to offer up any support to anyone who is or has experienced the same difficult road and struggles. Sometimes it's good (for some people, not everyone of course) to talk about it and open up, but often you don't know who that could or should be. Maybe it's easier if that person isn't someone close to you or your partner / family, as it feels a little bit more arms-length. If that is you, and things are getting on top of you and you want to chat or get it off yer chest - drop me a DM (they are open!). šŸ•Šļø

Chris, an inspirational guy who battled every challenge his illness threw at him to ensure he was at Pittodrie cheering on his beloved Dons. Will mean the world to his family if you applaud in the 48th minute, especially to his teenage son who is one of our matchday flagbearers
On Sunday, in the 48th minute, please join in a minute’s applause in memory of Chris Romaszkiewicz, a lifelong Dandy and Richard Donald ST holder, who sadly passed away after a brave fight against cancer. Chris was very highly thought of at the club. Stand Free Chris āļøāļø

Thank you to everyone who came along - we hope you enjoyed it. It’s only a small thing of course, but an open door to have so many young fans meet their heroes is vitally important to the long term health of AFC. We’ll aim to make it even bigger and even better next year too. šŸ“†āœšŸ»šŸ”“

Hands up - a genuine mistake. Ā  When you are dealing with human beings, even the very good and experienced ones can make a rare error… Ā  The positive for us is that we have quickly fixed the oversight by retrospectively applying the normal protection rules to all purchases, checking them all and deactivating / refunding any that wouldn’t have passed the normal protocols. Ā  We know that this will cause some disappointment for some Dons supporters in this group too who have no recent transaction history with the club. Our staff have worked day and night since Wednesday to check every transaction and I thank them for all their effort. Ā  In terms of the methodology of sales. Our ticket office set it up identically to what it has been for the previous two Semi Finals (vs Rangers last season and vs Hibs recently), minus (briefly) that fail safe oversight, obviously. Ā  The theory was to try and allow as many Dons fans to sit together at the Cup Final in larger groups with friends and family etc as possible. Ā  The weight of demand on Day 1 caught us out a bit - again, no hiding away, just the truth. Ā  With hindsight, we should’ve, and will in future, ensure a broader priority base for a longer time. Ā  Our priority now is to get hold of and distribute the remaining tickets to supporters on the waiting list - which the ticket office has been closed to update and is almost complete - based on Priority Points. Ā  Once again apologies, but thanks so much for the brilliantĀ support.

Dons fans, I understand that from the tweets and replies, we’ve a lot of frustrated Dandies posting about ViaPlay Cup Final tickets. We have, at the moment, sold out our INITIAL allocation. We have been given up to 19,500 tickets - the first lot of circa 17,000 have gone almost immediately. The ticket office set a threshold at 200 points to buy one ticket each then, this afternoon at 5pm, the remainder went on full general sale. Although it was for for the right reasons, in hindsight, this was an error on our part. We should’ve had a second sales period for lesser points before - I.e. 100-199, before full general sale, ensuring there was more control. That’s a lesson we’ll learn. I take responsibility for that and I am very sorry to those who are currently feeling frustrated. The good news is that we are still expecting another approx 2500 tickets and we will ensure, when we get them, that priority is given to season ticket holders / higher point holders. If you have so far missed out on tickets and want to go - please email Ticketoffice@afc.co.uk and the team there will look to sort you out as soon as we receive the additional batch through (we’re putting pressure on SPFL to have these to us asap). This does bring into sharp focus our plea to have been given the opportunity to sell out Hampden on a 50/50 split. Given we’ve sold 17,000 tickets in just a few short days, I think it’s fair to say there is a high probability we could’ve sold out a 50% share had we been given the chance.
