Thrilled to be on this shortlist with The Ayrshire Nestling, & honoured that it's with such terrific other writers and books. And delighted too for Sheila Wakefield's @RedSquirrelPres, the new imprint of which, Tringa, took a chance on my wee book. 🙏🙏 to @SaltireBook Awards!
Delighted to share #SaltireBookAwards Non-fiction Shortlist 2025: 6 amazing titles of which 2 are debuts. Congrats to Debut contenders Howard Amos & Katie Goh, and to Gerry Cambridge, Jenni Fagan, David Farrier, and Sarah Moss, up for Scotland's Non-fiction Book of the Year!
Our new issue is now out, scotching rumours of our demise; & the biggest edition in our 30-year history. Orders and more on the contents available here:

Readers: "bracingly uncompromising"; "the only [poetry magazine] I read from cover to cover"...
ALT Cover of issue 48 of The Dark Horse, in deep blue, cream and dark red, with contents and contributors; the famous Horse head drawing, by Gerald Mangan appears in large size down the top and centre, with text around it, and the magazine's title in white print in a black box at upper right; the magazine is being held against the backdrop of Arran in North Ayrshire.
ALT Image of The Dark Horse's editor, Gerry Cambridge, in a pale grey shirt holding up a copy of the new issue, the whole framed against a sea background; he wears dark glasses and a wide brimmed sun-hat; he has fountain pens and a smartphone in his breast pocket; he has a pair of binoculars around his neck. He has a pleased smile on his face.
ALT Three or four copies of The Dark Horse, issue 48, spread out like playing cards against a dark grey textured background; the cover colours cream, dark blue, and a deep red.
ALT Five copies of the back cover of The Dark Horse, issue 48, with a pull quote from an essay by Victoria Moul on the American poet Anthony Hecht, in white text on a dark blue and deep red ground..
Great article on the shitshow that is the Salt Path - so many of us writers rip our hearts out in the name of good 'honest' memoir writing, the kind of writing that is written with authentic voice at its roots, don't see near the success of this book
Why? Because our stories are about real, truthful #workingclass lives, they are about the lived experience of socioeconomic hardship, the lasting longevity of poverty, prejudice and unfairness at every level and at every stage of our writing careers
Great to see that my @CommonGroundLit prize gets a mention too, now more than ever we need to raise our voices, here on common ground x

Hello. I'm one of three Ayrshire lads cycling 250 miles from Irvine to Inverness to raise money for @N_T_S. We want to help efforts to replant Glen Rosa on Arran after the devastating wildfires in April. Any help (or RTs) appreciated! ❤️

Mesmerised by this essay (& I don’t say that often!). L&A tell a beautiful story through the inspiring archaeology of photography.
I visited Ardeer with Alex when we were both Irvine-based, suspecting that his long duration study would be impactful. Here’s to many more outputs!
