Pumped to announce that I'll be joining the team at Laundry Spot as COO to help launch and manage the best laundromat franchise in the land. After selling my business Summer 2025, my #1 requirement of "the next thing" was to surround myself with elite people. @TylerPurcell24 and @DanReese21 without a doubt check that box as well as the other LS partners. I recently visited their flagship store in Hamilton, OH (pictured below) and was blown away at the operation. - Tech-packed machines - Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installed like a form of art - And don't even get me started on the fresh smell of Ozone when you walk in I'll be overseeing ops, store build-outs, and ongoing support for Franchisees. I'm excited to apply my knowledge of construction coming out of the gate and dial in ops the best way I know how. With good comms, standards, and systems. I'll be sharing our journey as we get the first group of Franchisees signed on and stores built out.

I’m a car guy but I will never understand the appeal of dumping thousands of dollars in cheesy mods into your average car. Take this Camaro for example.

I’ve never built a pergola before or done any sort of timber framing. But I just paid $1,000 for (4) 6x6x12 cedar posts and I’m diving in head first. With a Masters from Youtube University, anything is possible. So today I set the post brackets on the footings. Spent most of the day doing layout and triple checking everything. Really hoping everything aligns 10’ up once I set the posts. Any words of wisdom before sawdust starts flying?

Cleveland would be considered a top-tier city if Lake Erie looked like that. Maybe I should start a Lake Water Dye Co.

AI rendering of Cleveland w Michigan water. Quite the upgrade.

Here's Laundry Spot v4.0. We're proud of the customer experience and the store's financial performance. Not exactly your average laundromat. But we can't wait to unveil Laundry Spot v5.0. It's going to blow v4.0 out of the water.

Great insight from someone who was in the belly of the beast. Just look at 𝕏. Elon cut 80% and we’re still here.
I take no pleasure in saying this, but it’s the truth. You could reduce headcount by at least 30% at most big Corps and the business would not be impacted whatsoever. Unless you’ve experienced both big Corp and SMB, you can’t fathom just how bloated most big Corps are. If you’ve only worked big Corp you don’t know any different and assume it’s how businesses must run. If you’ve only worked SMB you don’t know what it’s like to have a 20 person HR Department. It’s interesting to see people like Ryan Cohen go into eBay and Elon Musk go into Twitter and essentially ask “what the hell are all these people actually doing?” Excessive bloat is painfully obvious to them on day 1. The harsh truth is activity inside most Corps is centered around individual self-preservation and internal optics. Everyone is busy. Deadlines. Meetings. Presentations. Hustle. Stress. Many performative acts of hard work. Problem is the majority of that “stuff” is internally focused. Not nearly enough leaves the 4 walls and impacts the business. The ratio of work to meaningful output is wildly out of whack. When I worked at Kraft Heinz I got promoted for “being good in meetings”. I’m not kidding. My bosses trusted me to handle conversations w their bosses (and their bosses), which was extremely valuable to them. And up the Corp ladder I went. AI will of course accelerate this dynamic. While most big Corps will be slow to fully adopt AI, over time it’ll only shine a brighter light on the bloat and inefficiency. To be clear, layoffs suck. Real people are impacted. But if you work in a big Corp you need to understand you’ll be skating on increasingly thin ice over the next decade. It only takes one leader or activist investor w non-conformist thinking to risk being cut. Regardless of your tenure or what your latest performance review said. Plan accordingly.

I’m having contractors build a new patio in my backyard and I am micromanaging the shit out of them. I’m definitely a control freak when it comes to projects, and while I believe these guys do good work, the communication and prep leading up to project start date has been concerning. These guys are digging (4) 42” deep footings in my backyard, they’re ripping up a sidewalk where electric and gas runs underneath, we have an electric fence buried where they are working, and they never asked about any of this stuff or had utilities marked out. So 24 hours before they started I called 811, I ripped out the electric fence for the dogs and marked where it was, and I double checked where they laid out footings and one of them was 3 inches off. I know it sounds like I’m complaining but we’re spending north of $30,000 on a patio and fire pit and it feels a bit careless to not do proper due diligence before you start a project. The other problem is I’m a horrible contracting customer. I know enough about construction so I’m sure these dudes go and grab beers after work and complain about me as a customer. Bottom line is I have high standards and I’m not a afraid to call you out with your own business if you’re not living up to those standards. Because last thing I want is to cut a check for $30k and something be wrong. Regardless, I’m still very excited to have the new backyard setup. Photo below of progress after day 1 and a rendering I made to finalize a design.

In most laundromats utilities are the largest expense. “Average” laundromat utilities can run at ~25-35% of revenue. In 2025, utilities for Laundry Spot averaged 9.5%. This is why we can offer a premium experience at a non-premium price.

Two of the better things going on in my life right now. 1. My daughter thinking I’m cool and wanting to spend time with me. 2. Zero-turn mowers.

I’m headed out of town this evening for rare Saturday work trip. I head to my office early in the morning before my kids wake up so I haven’t seen them since last night. My girls are 10 months and 3 for reference and I’m headed home right now to say goodbye to them before I leave. I feel bad going home to see them for 5 minutes and for them to get upset I’m leaving. But I also feel bad leaving without saying goodbye so it’s a lose lose. Which one is worse?

Anybody else develop a new hobby and can’t refrain from going all in right off the rip? I have a private office with 4 dormer windows and a ton of morning and afternoon sunlight. I’ve never really explored the world of indoor plants but my wife gave me a few last fall to bring to the office. I’ve really enjoyed having some greenery to look at during the gloomy winter months and now that it’s summer, those OG plants are sprouting new leaves left and right, which has been fun to see the progression. So I went all in on turning my office into a miniature nursery. I built a cedar potting table, got basic tools, and about $1,000 of indoor plants to turn my office into a jungle. I’m hooked and probably will have another 10 plants in here by next summer.

Ultimately this is about implementing standards and having the discipline to execute the standard time and time again. Tough to do when you’re a smaller company or even a solo owner operator. Kudos to Tyler for holding the line when it would have been easy to waive the rush fee for a quick in/out job.
Me and a customer agree on price. Customer: “Can you get this done today? We are trying to lay concrete ASAP.” Me: “Sure, I’m not in your area though so I would need to charge you $150 extra to move my schedule around.” Customer: “Ah no worries, it’s not that rushed, just schedule me when you can.” When you are firm with your own schedule and policies, customers bend to you. NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

The first Laundry Spot location opened in 2006. During the 2008 Great Recession business went up. During the economic expansion of 2010 business also went up. When you serve a genuine necessity, the economy becomes a less important variable.

I'll tell ya what, fast communication and decision making is a total cheat code in business. We've welcomed new operators in 3 different markets to the Laundry Spot family and have chosen Slack as the primary communication platform. All groups are super responsive and there is plenty of chatter each day, which makes it a ton of fun. It also allows us to go from welcome call, systems onboarding, CRE broker interviews, and head first into site selection in ~5-7 days. Not sure what other brands are doing but I couldn't imagine doing things any other way.

Tony and I linked up to bring 10 Laundry Spots to the Cleveland market. You better believe our strategy meetings take place on the golf course. I’m a ~15 handicap and Tony is a 2 qualifying for Am tournaments. If I don’t knock 10 strokes off my game as we build out stores, I would have failed.
I made a triple bogey on the 12th hole of a state am qualifier yesterday. The old me shoots 79 from here and sulks in the car. Instead I played the last 6 holes in -4. Here's what changed. 🧵
