Yinz it's happening. My dream of opening my own lab is coming true as the Guseman lab will be opening at @UCSanDiego in Jan '24! We will be studying the biophysical basis of protein glycan recognition & mechanism(s) of glycan targeting antivirals at @UCSDChemBiochem 1/ many
My heart breaks for the prospective students whose dream schools halted admissions. I can only offer this, during my time at UNC, those who had spent time in tech positions/industry were better prepared for grad school than those (like myself) who jumped right in.
My advice if you had the rug pulled out from under you... Stay curious and stay hungry. Nobody can every take that away from you. Hopefully the "business" of science will correct itself, and when it does, you will be battle hardened. I can't wait to be your colleague.
The entire Habs team stayed on the ice to congratulate Marc-Andre Fleury after his final game in Montreal โค๏ธ
He becomes the first goalie in NHL history to record a shutout as a teenager and at 40 years or older.
TikTok went dark sooner than we expected, now my wife will never know about the cute puppy video I saw, the recipe that we both think looks delicious but will never make, or the pizza she owes me because I sent her the video first... *sigh*...

When I was young I had a hand held microscope that I would use to look at everything from the skin on my finger, to bugs and trees, to the carpet. Sometimes I wonder if that that's why I became a scientist. So to test this hypothesis I just bought a similar thing for my nephews!
We will have to wait a decade to see the results of this experiment. But here to hoping they come visit and ask to see the "big" microscopes on campus sometime...
The first of a PILE that Fatema is publishing. This was a super cool story to watch come together at the bench next to me/during group meeting. Stay tuned for the rest of them to come. They are ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ...Oh also Fatema is gonna be on the market in the near future...
My Latest work from @Gronenborn_lab. Using 19F NMR, we developed a multiplexed assay for tracking small GTPase activity. This method enables real-time, simultaneous monitoring of multiple proteins under physiological conditions. Check it out in @J_A_C_Spubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/jacโฆ
