In collab with @Challis_Group @Hertweck_Lab Congrats all!
We've developed a simple tool to reorient complete microbial genomes to begin with conventional start genes - originally dnaA for bacteria, but also for plasmids, phages & custom genes @viji112 @BeardyMcFace @susiegriggo_ @BhavyaPapudeshi

End of an era, using the lab clean as an excuse to clear my lab bench and drawers - officially no more lab work for me at Cardiff
Next month will be my office desk!
🚨JOB ALERT🚨
We are recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (3yr contract).

Please RT.
Aircon in our lab is basically non existent at the moment and the corner of the lab by the windows is over 32°C.
So the 30°C incubator is actually COOLING to achieve temperature - definitely need to report this to facilities...
Congratulations to @AlexJMullins who has been awarded one of BBSRC's 22 new Discovery Fellowships. We look forward to hosting him in our Warwick lab for three years from August. ukri.org/news/bbsrc-announce…
Excited to see the official announcement of the latest @BBSRC Discovery Fellows - and have my name on the list!
Congratulations to all the other fellows starting this year, look forward to meeting you all and starting my research!
Announcing our 2022 Discovery Fellows🎉 Meet them here: orlo.uk/RX4aB We’re excited to see their innovative projects come to fruition.
Feeling inspired? Applications for the BBSRC Discovery Fellowship 2023 programme are now open🔽 1/
ALT "...The 22 individuals named as BBSRC’s latest Discovery Fellows demonstrated their aptitude to deliver outstanding science as well as their capability and capacity as future bioscience leaders.
We look forward to tracking their progress and success as they develop their skills, abilities and experiences for the wider benefit of UK bioscience."

Check out the paper by @WISB_SynBioCtre / @ARC_CIPPS research fellow Chuan Huang and @warwickchem colleagues on yeast-mediated cloning and manipulation of natural product BGCs, applied to resolving remaining ambiguities in TMC-86A/eponemycin biosynthesis. track.smtpsendmail.com/90321…
Fantastic review comment that Ken Nealson received for a submitted paper at the start of his career
"I can't find anything wrong with the data, but the conclusion can not be correct - bacteria don't do this"
I would have loved to include this at the front of my thesis
#ISME18
Ken’s simple explanation of electrotrophy, next to chemotropy and phototrophy… again, deep sea hydrothermal vents are natural niche for electrotrophy = geoelectricity
#ISME18
Fantastic plenary lectures by @PEngellab and @Slack1Emma on understanding and manipulation of microbiomes at #ISME18
Can't wait to start the talks and poster sessions tomorrow!
