Congrats to PLANETAS grad student @AliviaEng for receiving a NASA FINESST grant!!! 🎉🙌🎊🎉🙌👋 She’s been using HiRISE Color Data in tandem with Mastcam VNIR spectral data from Curiosity to help map Gale crater, Mars! @GeorgiaTechEAS@GTSciences
My friends (and amazing planetary scientists / geologists) Elena & Topher Amador-French lost their home last night in the Eaton Fire. They had to flee with minutes warning. If you’re able, please donate to them and their family. Venmo: Elena-Amador.

Organic Carbon and Ca-Rich Carbonate Detections in Soils of the Northern Plains, Mars: Evaluation of Unreported Data From the Mars Phoenix Scout's Thermal Evolved Gas Analyzer (TEGA). buff.ly/4fCtRZv Phoenix site soils: highest soil carbon concentration of any on Mars.
Mapping and Characterizing the Northern Fan Deposits in Jezero Crater, Mars. buff.ly/4eYAyp6 Study finds the northern fan shows evidence of deposition from Sava Vallis, but part of its western region could be a distal part of the western delta.
In today’s episode, explore how observations from the Arecibo radio telescope may hold the key to unraveling one of the greatest astronomical mysteries of the past 50 years. 🔭👽

So excited to share my first blog post for NASA's Mars 2020 rover! Here's an inside look at how the team works together to map out scientific areas of interest for the rover to explore. science.nasa.gov/blog/reachi… via @NASA#Mars2020#perseverance
At #GSA2024?? Check out PLANETAS grad student, Sharissa Thompson's (@Reese9281) talk Monday at 1:30PM (TODAY) on using thermal infrared data for constraining grain size (&sorting!) info of Mars analog alluvial fan! 🚀gsa.confex.com/gsa/2024AM/me…
Integrated Spectral and Compositional Analysis for the Lunar Tsiolkovskiy Crater. buff.ly/3XBS647 Study produces a 10-unit Spectral Units map conveying the spectral and compositional properties within the Tsiolkovskiy crater.
1 million laser shots! 💥
I recently surpassed the MILLIONTH laser shot with my ChemCam instrument, which vaporizes rocks so my team can analyze their elemental composition.
(Fun fact: The laser shoots out of the "eye" on my mast. Cool, right?)
ALT A reddish-and-gold-hued square shows the head of the Curiosity rover on Mars. This image was taken with its MAHLI instrument and the dust cover was on, which is why the image has the hazy tint. The rover's head is off-center in the image and it appears to be staring straight at the camera.
An Orbital Comparison of a Late Mantling Unit on Aeolis Mons With Other Erosion-Resistant Strata Explored by MSL in Gale Crater, Mars. buff.ly/3AKg1Fc Newly mapped mantling unit has sfc and spectral features similar to the marker band; both differ from surrounding strata
12 years ago, I was getting ready for my first year in high school and remember the excitement of watching Curiosity land on the TV. 12 years later, I have the incredible opportunity of being a part of this mission. Happy landiversary Curiosity!

Water-Limited Hydrothermalism and Volcanic Resurfacing of Eridania Basin, Mars. buff.ly/4d0ZHyr Study finds that Eridania's northern basin experienced a distinct, possibly longer‐lived aqueous alteration than the southern basins.
Congratulations to @AstroJosePC on winning the NASA FINESST!! 🎊🥳🎊🥳🎊 José is the third doctoral student at Howard University to win behind @exoplanetist and I! 🥳🎊🥳🎊🥳
My 12-year landiversary is a few days away 🎉
From finding evidence Mars once had habitable environments to discovering rocks made of pure sulfur, I’ve done a lot since landing here in 2012.
Do you have any favorite moments of my journey?
ALT The Curiosity rover is shown in a selfie in a rocky area of Mars. The image is a rust color and the rover is lightly covered in Martian dust. It is slightly off center to the right and is staring at the camera on its robotic arm that took the photo. Next to the left side of the rover is a large reddish rock. In the background are small hills and haze along the horizon.
Congratulations to Dr. Farrah Simpson @farsimpson on a successful defense! This makes her the first Black woman to earn a PhD in Physics from Brown University. #BlackInPhysics
PhD student Emily Etheridge @eetheridge31's NASA FINESST proposal was selected! Using meteorites, Emily will explore the thermal evolution of enstatite chondrite & aubrite parent bodies, & develop a new thermometric method along the way. Congratulations, Emily!
