Just attended the #CalmingRooms session @4csla with @techamys & @TMS_Counselor SO great for my high school! The biggest @instagram response I ever got was for our library’s #QuietArea , where kids can be alone: no groups, no talking. Kids need a place to #CalmDown #DigCitSummit

The incomparable @nicklakeauthor has done it again! 17yo Emily runs away from home in Alaska to protect her younger bro—who’s being pursued by the FEDs! They stow away on a bush plane that crashes. With men in black shooting, a blizzard, & a wounded pilot to carry, what’s next?❄️
I began reading this & thought, “Oh great—yet another angsty teen whining🙄” But it’s so much more. James, who suffers from #depression, is socially awkward & in love with Walt Whitman’s poetry & Beth—editor of the school’s poetry review. Funny, beautiful, & important.

In apocalyptic N.America 50 years from now, we’ve depleted Earth’s natural resources, & people are sick & dying. When scientists discover the cure in the bone marrow of #IndigenousPeoples the hunt is on! @writeoncherie has written a #NativeAmerican thriller that is all too real!
The magnificent #EdnaFerber ‘s @PulitzerPrizes -winning novel is quintessentially #American in its sweeping story of life in 1920s #Chicago But the universal message is one of money vs. beauty, & of following your heart instead of spending your life trying to impress others❤️🏦
A short but intense allegory about the monsters masquerading as angels who live and work in our own #neighborhoods This acclaimed novel by @azemezi is definitely politically left-leaning, but teaches us ALL valuable lessons about being #aware , and the power of asking for help❤️

Though the storyline is predictable, @davidyoon ‘s irrepressible & realistic characters are anything but. Frank Li is in love with a white classmate, but his parents insist he date a #Korean girl. This @cyrmaward nominee was also named one of Time’s 100 Best YA Books. #Romance ❤️
And here are my 3 fav #grownup reads from the summer: #PulitzerPrize - winning short stories of #Vietnam , a deal with the #Cheyenne to trade horses for wives, & a crazy tale of #Canadian Catholics run hopelessly amok. #summerreads
Happy #YAWeek , Scots! Check this out and get started on your #NextRead list!!❤️📚🤔

Th year is 1241, & 16yo Dolssa is running for her life from a powerful priest who wants to burn her at the stake. Adventure, suspense, humor, romance—this gorgeous book from the amazing @JulieBerryBooks has it all! Who knew history could be so exciting??😳😳

Though published in 1940, #NativeSon tells today’s story. Did Bigger Thomas commit crimes b/c he’s a vicious killer? Or has society treated its young Black men in a manner that leaves them no choice? This #classic is a relevant commentary on the #Blackexperience in America today.
As part of the new wave of #BooksWithaConscience , @RandyRibay writes a powerful story of lies, family & unconditional love. It’s Spring Break of senior year when Jay finds out his cousin in the #Philippines has been killed by the gov’t.—for no reason! He must find out more!🏝🚔

Always so much fun to find a new fav #author ! @brownbookworm has written an exciting adventure that—while set in a fantasyland where magical young women can transform others—offers a powerful commentary on what women will go through to be society’s current version of #beautiful
Expanding her list of #YA books about teens contributing to #WWII , @EWein2412 writes a #thriller about 2 girls who find a real Nazi decoding machine called Enigma, then use it to help the Allied #RAF (I was floored when I later read about Enigma in WWII nonfiction!) Empowering!

Thank you for retweeting!!! I must admit, I am SUCH an author groupie—especially of yours, @EWein2412 ! My goal in life: Teach high school students to love (…ok, try!) historical fiction❤️📚🏰
Living in the Appalachias at the turn of the last century, Julie has been doing a man’s work since she was a child & her dad became ill. When she marries spoiled Hank , she learns that no amount of hard work can save a bad marriage. A sparse & heartbreaking story. Thanks @Oprah !

In Oct. 1961 a tornado tore through the drive-in theater in Mercer, IL, killing nearly all the town’s teens. It returns exactly 60 years later. Now 3 teens are hearing voices & seeing people no one else sees—& wondering WHY😳 A haunting story of loss & redemption. @nmlund #ghosts
