y'all need to know this
Some non-Asians probably have no idea what an ABG is, so here’s a little cultural explainer.
Understand that Asian American tropes makes you 12% cooler, and I want that for you. (Don’t fact check me on this stat).
ABG stands for Asian Baby Girl. It started in the 90s, especially in places like Los Angeles, where Asian girl gangs were part of the backdrop. Some of these girls had their own female crews and often aligned with male Asian gangs for protection or status. The look came out of that world.
Heavy eyeliner, thin brows, crop tops, gold jewelry, and a boyfriend with a neck tattoo who drove a Civic that shook the street. It was fierce, a little dangerous, and completely unforgettable.
Over time, it evolved into more of a glam aesthetic.
Today’s ABG might not be affiliated, but the confidence stuck around. She has blonde highlights, lash extensions, sharp nails, and a boba she guards like her social battery depends on it. She knows her angles, her lighting, and how to make a selfie feel like a power move. It’s a look, a vibe, and a part of Asian American pop culture.
I’m not an ABG, but no shade either!
