I am honored to have spent a couple of days and nearly 15 flight hours soaring across the desert mountains with my friend Sebastian in this beautiful proof-of-concept sailplane. Nixus is the world’s first fly-by-wire (FBW) sailplane. Designed for maximum performance, it has a custom 92-foot span, 53.3 aspect ratio wing. The use of an FBW system for the wing flaperons allows the exploration of new strategies for automatic flap positioning, tailored aileron deflections, load alleviation, and aeroelasticity control. Designing, engineering and machining a perfect coaxial rotorhead is akin to creating a work of art. Leave it to a German machining company to master it! Even these carbon fiber rotors belong in a museum! I am so impressed by this little sports car of a helicopter! Say goodbye to tailrotor failures and dangers! This machine was critical in helping me overcome overwhelming pain & adversity so that I may shape my life with a strong foundation. I stopped counting at 125,000 miles on my trikes throughout the years and now it mostly serves as my indoor trainer while I’m studying for my next flying adventure.
