DELIVERY/E-EDITION UPDATE: We’re experiencing technical issues that are currently impacting our production, print delivery, and phone systems at the Charleston Gazette-Mail and HD Media. What this means for you: - E-edition: May be delayed or temporarily unavailable - Website: Everything is being updated in real-time. You will be able to access the articles through Monday without logging in. After that, as a subscriber, you will be able to read those by logging into your account. - Print delivery: The Saturday-Sunday paper was printed well after the deadlines for delivery due to this issue. Those were delivered Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Please let us know if the physical paper was not delivered. - Phones: Our call center is down. We can't take calls right now. We are truly sorry for the disruption. We know many of you rely on us every morning, and failing to deliver is unacceptable to us. Our tech and production teams are working urgently to restore full service. Here’s how to reach us in the meantime: - Email: circcontact@hdmedia.com - We’re monitoring this closely. Part of the 1,700 acres recently purchased by Google for a proposed data center campus in Buffalo, Putnam County, is the site of an 1862 Civil War battle, and one local resident is trying to preserve the history. Taking place along W.Va. 62, known locally as Charleston Road, the conflict — later named the Battle of Atkeson’s Gate — occurred between the 91st Ohio Volunteer Infantry and Confederate cavalry under Brigadier General Albert G. Jenkins, according to Philip Hatfield, Hurricane resident, historian and author of “A History of Putnam County, West Virginia, in the Civil War.” “I’m trying to preserve as much of our history as we can with this,” Hatfield said. “We may not be able to stop the data center, but the history is worth preserving." 🗞️ FULL STORY: bit.ly/4tP8JGE

This story was so much fun to write! "Burt Texas" is the pro-wrestling alter-ego of one local six year old, whose dreams came true after finding viral fame on TikTok and being invited to WWE’s Monday Night Raw. wvgazettemail.com/life/youre…

Realizing he wanted to become a wrestler, Burt began creating a character of his own, brainstorming his name, catch phrase, signature song and finishing move—the Texas toast—even though he’s never actually been to Texas, his mom pointed out.

"We really look at the history of West Virginia glass as our backbone; we can't make a new shop in West Virginia without acknowledging the over 200 years of master glass workers," says co-founder Jared Neal.
