Local voices matter. Our 2026 Energy Right Statewide Poll found that 57% of Virginia voters believe local governments—not Richmond politicians—should decide whether energy projects are approved in their communities. Whether evaluating new energy infrastructure, balancing land use priorities, or planning for future growth, Virginians want decisions made by the elected officials who know their communities best.

Energy Right was in Washington this week to facilitate the Farm Viability and solar initiative with partners and farmers from across our great nation. This trip, we met with seven congressional offices to emphasize Solar energy’s compatibility with agricultural practices and lands. We closed out the fly-in with a sold-out reception and panel discussion from three Solar Grazers who shared their experiences and perspectives. Thank you to the American Conservation Coalition for the partnership and for moderating the discussion!

Agrivoltaics demonstrates that solar and agriculture don’t have to compete for the same land. Our latest 2026 Energy Right Statewide Poll found that 62% of voters are more likely to support solar projects when they allow continued agricultural use, such as livestock grazing. By combining energy production with farming practices, agrivoltaic projects help preserve working farmland, support local farmers, and strengthen rural economies while contributing to Virginia’s growing energy needs.

Is your community prepared for a natural disaster or even the growing peak electricity demand of everyday life? Renewables are a great way to fill in the electricity gaps! Dylan Taylor reminds us energy generation shouldn't be a red versus blue conversation but a lights on or off conversation.

Local tax revenue is one of the strongest drivers of support for solar projects in Virginia communities. Our 2026 Energy Right statewide poll found that 57% of voters are more likely to support solar projects when they learn that projects can generate millions in local tax revenue for schools, first responders, and public infrastructure. These results show that solar’s economic benefits to counties and taxpayers remain a key factor in shaping public opinion and local support for project applications.

Our latest Energy Right Statewide Poll shows that an overwhelming majority of Virginians, 83%, believe it’s important for the United States to prioritize energy security and independence, including 58% who say it’s very important. Whether it’s rising utility bills, strain on the grid from rapid industry growth, or broader questions about reliance on foreign energy, there’s a steady, underlying expectation that the U.S. should be in control of its own energy future, especially when it comes to avoiding rolling blackouts, fuel shortages, and sudden price spikes. Most importantly, the message is clear: energy security isn’t partisan or temporary—it’s a baseline priority for residents.

“Looking at projects on their merit, instead of what we see online can really help these local policies.” Dylan Taylor discusses how having conversations to clear up misconceptions and taking feedback from locals results in successful projects that don’t only benefit the local community that they are in. The whole region mutually benefits from projects that preserve the natural land while bringing homegrown energy to the community.
