In 1954, the CIA overthrew Guatemala's democratically elected president. Not over national security. Over banana profits. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles and CIA Director Allen Dulles both had direct financial ties to the United Fruit Company. The coup was sold as fighting communism. Artificial intelligence does not just assist reasoning. It seeks to automate it. The benchmarks, the way developers measure progress, the unsolved math problems large language models have now cracked. All of it points in the same direction. We should be honest about what this technology is built to do.

Only 30% of American students are proficient in reading. Under 40% meet grade-level math standards. Hundreds of University of California STEM professors are now pushing to reinstate SAT/ACT requirements after years of test-free admissions produced exactly the results you would expect.
The data is not ambiguous. The system failed. The question is whether states and parents will demand something different.

A librarian who finds five sources is doing one thing. A librarian who reads all of them, writes a research paper, and hands it to you is doing something fundamentally different. That is what these models are doing. Generating content that did not exist before. Not retrieving what was already there.
