If you use the Sparkle Updater in your Mac app, and your app's bundle identifier ends with `.app` you will run into a bug that causes updates to not work on first try.
The Sparkle team fixed this bug in Sparkle 2.9.3. 🙌
There are ~25 affected apps on Amore.
Go update.

There are good reasons to publish Mac apps outside of the App Store.
iA lists some reasons in their recent blog post.
- In-app purchases don’t work for institutional purchases
- Educational discounts
- Some companies disable access to the App Store
- Custom payments
