Don't say "Orange" when you specifically mean "Clementine", "Satsuma" or "Tangerine".
Don't say "Clementine", "Satsuma" or "Tangerine" when you just mean "Orange" for all.
Define business terms before you proceed.
Establish a common vocabulary.

In the 80s, I wrote a thesis titled "Greek Infantry and Cavalry with Special Reference to the 5th Century BC".
My supervisor, Professor Richmond, died this year and I posted this comment on the death notice on Facebook.

Someone tweeted that the delta between a software developer's understanding of a business process and the reality of that process is a common problem.
A far more common delta is between the physical data architecture of software solutions and the taxonomy of the business.

I have rarely been on a project where they don't point at a physical database design when I ask about the logical data model (and then look nonplussed when I say I want to see a technology-agnostic model).
Not even Google gets it when you search for "logical data modeling tools".
