This is largely where I stand. Breath of the Wild was an incredible achievement, but it was so easy to spot the missed potential that I had hoped a sequel would deliver on, instead of doubling down
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was a fun game. It did a lot of things right, like having lots of towns to visit and tons to explore. But… I don’t think every Zelda game going forward needs to be this. In fact there are a lot of things I disliked about the game, such as:
1- the lame temples and shrines were not interesting or satisfying. I want traditional dungeons back.
2- breakable weapons suck. I want a better progression system back if not just the normal tool unlock system.
3- world should feel a little more intimate. I don’t want empty or small open worlds like Twilight Princess or, even worse, Skyward Sword but I want it to feel tight and purposeful again.
I think a lot of Zelda fans feel the same. I wonder what Nintendo will do after the ocarina of time remake.
