On holiday in Caithness and stopped by the Wick Heritage museum. Some fascinating exhibits in there but I especially liked the Ganseys. If @dieworkwear is ever on holiday in the North of Scotland he should stop by!

The museum is right next door to the site of a memorial to the first daylight bombing raid of WW2 to hit the UK mainland. 11 were killed in the strike on 1 July 1940 including 8 children.

Just slightly further down the street is the site of the "black stairs" captured by LS Lowry

Genuinely fascinating set of photos from Glen Feshie today showing the various avalanches set off by collapsing cornices during the thaw. Clearly not an isolated case judging by a lack of trees in the chutes. Lovely fanning as well. 📷 Paul Phillips tinyurl.com/33kzj25h

Interesting... I wasn't sure if Inverness would be included in the consultation area.

Love it, need to brush up on my clothing for my bike rides. I've been planning a cross-cairngorm ride through a different glen. Don't think I'll have as much style as Jim but my bike is probably more likely to survive!

If you want to dress well this fall, imagine yourself as Big Jim Collie, a Scottish crofter in the 1970s who lived alone in a bothy and rode a rickety old bicycle through the Lairig Ghru, the highest mountain pass in the highest mountain range in Britain.

Dishwasher loading... Everyone has their preferences, each to their own, good natures banter, etc. However. This is getting close to being a war crime.

It's been enlightening seeing Jim pull this together over the months. A reminder that real journalism takes persistence and time. And money. Worth it for readers, I hope.

Superb. 👏🏼
#DAFC is delighted to reveal our third kit for season 2025/26. The Pars, to this day, run out to 'Into The Valley' by the Skids, and our third kit pays the ultimate homage to one of the greatest bands to come out of Dunfermline. ℹ️ tinyurl.com/292f3afc

1/x I'm down in Cornwall on holiday and for a day in St Ives we caught the park and ride train from St Erth. Like many stations it needed to put in an accessible footbridge. Unlike most (all?) @ScotRail stations, it looks like they made an effort to make it look good.

3/x I believe at St Erth there were objections when the old girder bridge was to be replaced, I hope the community realise that they've at least ended up with something a little nicer than they would have got if they were in Scotland!

4/X this isn't just meant as a whinge, it's more just to note that it is possible to do better. I'm not sure who makes the infrastructure decisions, @networkrail @NetworkRailSCOT @networkrailwest @scotrail? @BlackIslePMD you might appreciate this

If you have a view on Common Good land becoming a privately run Hydrogen production and storage site, you have 2 weeks left to comment on the consultation.
We are now in the final fortnight of the consultation period for the disposal & change of use of Inverness Common Good land at the former waste landfill site at East Longman, #Inverness. Members of the public have until 15 July 2025 to take part. buff.ly/CEg6jtL

This must tick so many of your boxes @BlackIslePMD
After the Disruption of 1843, the landowner at Strontian, Sir James Riddell, refused to allow the new Free Church congregation a site on which to build a church. Their response was to raise money to commission a floating church from John Wood & Co.’s shipyard at Port Glasgow. It arrived at Loch Sunart, towed by two tugboats, on this day in 1846. Two years later, it broke free from its moorings and drifted ashore where it remained for about 20 years until a church was built on the land [images: @HighlandFolk]
