Oz football statto (bit.ly/almw2425sg) with a slight bias towards Socceroos, Matildas & Adelaide United. Demographic stats (my day job) and maps also arouse me.

Travelling around the Balkans... football highlight so far was a visit to Mark Viduka's kafe in Zagreb... had a lovely little chat, such a humble guy considering his achievements.

At 1590m above sea level, Bos' goal v US at Dick's Sporting Goods Park Denver is the highest goal scored by the @Socceroos since Scott Chipperfield scored at Esadio El Campin Bogota in 2001, 2550m above sea level.
Incidentally the previous time the @Socceroos played at a >1000m venue was also against US, at Ruimsig Stadium Johannesburg in 2010 (1480m). Tim Cahill also scored in the 19th min in that game
Australia v Canada.
Separated at birth: Australia’s George Best - Ulysses Kokkinos and Canada’s 80’s rock legend Gino Vannelli.
Ours is better than yours.

Djed Spence becomes the first Muslim player to represent the senior England men's team.
The Socceroos have had 8 from the Islamic faith to represent their country. Mehmet Duraković was the first in 1990 vs Indonesia.

Circati the first starting @Socceroos captain born outside Australia since... umm... Degenek 4 days ago. But before then it was Kevin Muscat way back in 2006, and before that Mehmet Durakovic in 2002
At 21 years 335 days old, Alessandro Circati is the youngest @Socceroos starting captain in an A international since September 1981, when Peter Raskopoulos led a largely U-20 based team in a dead rubber WC qualifier v Taiwan

There were 3 Socceroos A games with younger starting captains over 1980-81 with Australia using these games as warm ups for the U20s, with Aus hosting the 1981 U20 World Cup.
Otherwise it appears the only younger starting A captain *ever* was Bill Maunder (21y 210d) in June 1924.
With an average age of 25.91 years, tonight's @Socceroos starting line-up is the youngest starting team since June 2017, v Cameroon at the Confederations Cup (25.72 years).
Socceroos v Bangladesh in June 2024 had an average age of 25.92 years

So @DBHaimoff83 shared a very cool prompt to show stadiums as collector items in a fan store.
Of course I had to do it for @AFL@aflwomens stadiums :)

Socceroos' win over Saudis ends the busiest two weeks for Australian national team action ever. In 14 days, 6 different AUS national teams (men's U16/U18/U20/U23 and @Socceroos, and @TheMatildas) played 15 games across 6 countries, with 120 Australian players taking the field.
Previous busiest periods, in terms of most games played by our outdoor teams in around two weeks:
- 18 February to 1 March 2025, 14 games in 15 days (men's U17/U20, women's U20/senior)
- 5 to 20 October 2018, 14 games in 16 days (men's U17/U20/senior, women's senior)
The 120 players who represented Australia over the last two weeks include the Toure brothers, who both played for Aus national teams in the last two days - Musa (U20) v Argentina in Buenos Aires and Mo (senior) v Saudi Arabia in Jeddah
