Today, I signed three commonsense bills to keep our kids safe at school and reduce gun violence across the state of Michigan.
Unfortunately, we are all too familiar with this issue. Guns are the number one killer of young people in this country. It’s a uniquely American problem.

A man was senselessly shot and killed by another driver during a road rage incident in Orlando, Florida.
In 2022, someone was shot and injured or killed every 16 hours in a road rage incident—most frequently in states with weak gun safety laws.

As of this morning, homicides are down 23.9% and nonfatal shootings are down 33.6% year-to-date. These reductions are on top of the roughly 20% drop in homicides we saw in 2023.
