Although immediate patient notification of pathology results is already common in USA and Europe, we need to consider exceptions for surgical pathology, cytology, genetics and STI testing.

As a follow up to yesterday’s post, CK5/6 and ER are not very useful and can be confusing when the intraductal proliferation consists of a pure population of intermediate and high grade nuclei. DCIS can show basal-like immunophenotype (CK5/6 positive) and can be ER variable to negative.
The below images are from a case that was preliminarily called intraductal hyperplasia based on IHC findings. It is DCIS.
