Vale Richard. I am deeply saddened to lose such a cherished colleague. Richard was a truly extraordinary pathologist - the 'pathologists' pathologist' - who also made generous time for clinicians navigating complex diagnostic cases, understanding that an accurate tissue diagnosis was critical to patient care. His knowledge was vast, his skill exceptional, with an unparalleled eye for accurate tissue diagnoses, and the precision to apply decades of experience where it mattered most. He shared his expertise widely: through consultation on external specimens, through diagnostic and classification frameworks now used worldwide, and as a devoted teacher and mentor. Richard has left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.Β  My thoughts are with Richard's family during this difficult time, particularly his wife Katie and children Emily, Matthew, and Lucy. nice neighbour had a tree cut down, and arborists let me have the wood. Next winter's firewood sorted! Plus they got away sooner ahead of the storm.

First day of winter, and already we're doing storm prep. getting generator ready, and firewood. I prefer storms in the summer, honestly.

RIP to this extraordinary man, a legend, a fighter & a true gentleman. Rest well Neale β€οΈπŸ–€
Daniher family statement on the passing of 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher: We’re heartbroken to share that our much-loved husband, Dad and Poppy, Neale Daniher, passed away at home, surrounded by his family. From day one, Neale was a fighter. His determination was unmatched - choosing every day to find opportunity where others might see only challenge, and taking the fight to the Beast with everything he had. Even in the toughest times, he kept pushing forward, determined to land as many blows as he could against his toughest opponent, all with a cheeky grin and a sharp sense of humour that never left him. Long before MND, Neale had always been the heart of our family. Growing up as one of eleven children, he brought light and laughter wherever he went. He loved deeply and was loved just as much in return by his family and friends. Across every part of his life, Neale left his mark. Many knew him as β€œCoach” or β€œReverend” during his time at the Dees, while at the Dons he was respected as a fierce and calculating player, with a brilliant football mind. He was a natural leader, someone people were drawn to and looked up to. But beyond all of that, he was a loving husband, dad, a proud Poppy, a music lover, and the one with the biggest laugh in the room. He was known for his quick wit, his humour, and his ability to bring people together - qualities that defined him far more than any title ever could. We want to thank the incredible community who stood beside Neale and our family throughout this journey. Your support, kindness, and unwavering belief meant more than we could ever put into words. Neale drew great strength from knowing he was never alone, and neither were we. We are so grateful to the incredible carers, nurses, doctors, researchers, and specialists who supported Neale and our family with such dedication and compassion. Thank you. Neale’s fight was never his alone. It became something bigger - something shared - and it touched the lives of many. His wish was simple but powerful - to help create a world where no one has to face this disease. But beyond that he wanted to leave a legacy that says this β€œNo matter the odds, no matter the diagnosis, we all have the power to fight, to smile, and to do. Because the mark of a person isn’t what they say, "it’s what they do”. We will forever remember him for the lasting impact that he has made on us all. He has inspired, he has loved, he has lived and it would only be fitting to finish with his words - Play On.

Don't grow veggies while looking after Mum, they said; buy them. It will be easier, they said...bought 4 spuds in my woolies delivery, and they are spongy and inedible. Sunday roast ruined. using cauliflower and carrots instead. Can't complain; at least we have food...

I love this!
Denmark, particularly in Copenhagen, has installed floating platforms/islands planted with wildflowers and native vegetation in its harbors and canals. These create safe urban habitats and sanctuaries for birds, bees, pollinators, insects, and even some aquatic life.

Wise words from this young woman! β€œTwice this week, I have watched an elderly individual, fade into the busy life in which we all live. One man just needed Panadol for his wife but the shop assistant simply said it’s in aisle β€˜6’. But he struggled to navigate the supermarket and as I watched him go in the wrong direction, I left all my groceries and took him where he needed to go.” β€œToday, I watched an elderly man struggle in the heat, who had obviously had a fall with a huge scrape and blood on his leg. He walked past people in the cafe, while he slowly made his way to his car. Not one person stopped. Or looked. Or acknowledged him. I took him to his car and checked he was ok. He told me he had a fall and wasn’t sure how the air con worked in his car so he just didn’t use it. I sat with him, until his air con kicked in and heard him talk about the old frail body that he is in, that fails him now, every single day.” β€œWhen you see an elderly person walking down the street, searching in the supermarket or struggling to their car, take a minute out of your busy schedule and ask them if they need a hand. Think about your grand parents and your parents and how pissed you would be if someone didn’t stop to help them. But more, think of them as you.” β€œOnce upon a time they were you. They were busy, they had work, they had children, they were able. Today, they are just in an older body that is not going as fast as it used to and this busy life is confusing. They deserve our utmost respect and consideration. One day it will be you, it will be us. I wish more people gave a shit about them and acknowledged them for their admirable existence and jeez I hope someday, not that far away, someone does it for me.” Thanks to the author, Adele Renee. β™₯️
