The Revd Helen Van Koevering, Chair of the International Anglican Women’s Network, is preparing to attend ACC-19. Helen describes her own story as one shaped by many parts of the Anglican Communion: ‘I was born and raised in England, confirmed in Durham, married in Mozambique, a missionary in Zimbabwe, ordained a priest in Wales, served for 25 years the church in northern Mozambique, and, now, the Episcopal Church for 10 years.’ Looking ahead to ACC-19, Helen said: ‘I am excited to sit with our global church at a momentous time of discerning God’s mission with us going forward! It feels like being invited to the kitchen not just the table.’ Her prayer is: ‘Lord and Father of all, You are our guide and satisfy our needs and hopes; may our conversations bring renewed relationships, inspire us into Your mission with all at the edges of the diverse communities of our beloved Communion, and encourage the rebuilding, restoration and reconciliation of all that is broken, hurting and divided. And all so that we may bring glory to You. Amen.’ Read more: bit.ly/4nTNwJT Read more about ACC-19: bit.ly/4l401kQ #Anglicans

ACC-19 will be hosted by the Church of Ireland which serves communities across the whole island of Ireland. The Church of Ireland traces its roots to the Celtic Church that emerged after the mission of St Patrick in the fifth century. Its story includes almost 1,600 years of Christian worship and witness in Ireland. Today, the Church of Ireland has around 343,000 members and more than 1,000 places of worship across the island. As Anglicans from around the world prepare to gather in Belfast, we give thanks for the welcome, prayer and hospitality of the Church of Ireland. Read more about ACC-19: bit.ly/4l401kQ #Anglicans

A powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake has struck off the southern Philippine island of Mindanao, causing serious damage in General Santos, Sarangani and surrounding areas. Reports say buildings have collapsed, people have been killed and injured, and many communities are facing fear, disruption and uncertainty as aftershocks continue. Tsunami warnings were issued across parts of the region and later lifted, while emergency teams continue to assess the damage and support those affected. 🙏We pray for the people of the Philippines, especially all those affected in Mindanao. 🙏 We hold before God those who have died, those who are injured, those who are missing and all who are grieving. 🙏 We pray for people whose homes, schools, churches, businesses and communities have been damaged, and for all who remain anxious as aftershocks continue. 🙏 We give thanks for emergency responders, medical teams, local authorities, churches and community organisations offering help, shelter and care. 🙏 We pray for The Episcopal Church in the Philippines and their ministry to communities at this difficult time. God of mercy, draw near to all who are afraid, grieving or in need. Strengthen those who are responding with courage and compassion. Protect those in danger, comfort those who mourn and guide all who work to bring relief, healing and hope. Amen. #Anglicans

The Revd Canon Katharine Poulton, from the Church of Ireland, is among those preparing to attend ACC-19 in Belfast which will gather Anglicans from around the world to reflect on the theme of ‘Called To One Hope'. Ordained since 1987, Canon Katharine was the first woman to be ordained deacon in the Church of Ireland. She has served in parishes in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and is currently Rector of a parish on the east coast of Ireland and Archdeacon of Meath and Kildare. Katharine says she is looking forward to ‘the conversations, both formal and informal which will help us to understand more about the situations in which we live and the Anglican Communion in all its diversity.’ Her prayer is that ‘ACC-19 may be fruitful in discussion and resolution, that people will listen carefully and prayerfully to each other and that the experience in Belfast and beyond will be one that energises and inspires as people return to their home regions and communities.’ Read more: bit.ly/4nTNwJT Read more about ACC-19: bit.ly/4l401kQ #Anglicans

The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally, has led a debate in the House of Lords on the human impact of Artificial Intelligence. Archbishop Sarah described AI as a ‘remarkable product of human creativity’, but warned that it also raises urgent questions about human relationships, the future of work, democracy, truth and the protection of human dignity. In her speech, she said: ‘Technology this revolutionary must not simply be unleashed on our societies: it must be developed with us and for us - at a human pace, with human objectives. ‘Above all, we must put people - our common, glorious humanity - ahead of profit, convenience or technological progress at all costs.’ The debate follows wider Christian reflection on AI, including Pope Leo XIV’s recent encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas. AI is also one of the major themes being explored by the Anglican Communion Science Commission, as it seeks to equip Anglicans for thoughtful and courageous leadership in science. World Environment Day is marked every year on 5 June to encourage global awareness and action for the protection of the environment. For Anglicans, caring for God’s creation is not an optional extra. It is part of our shared mission. The Fifth Mark of Mission calls us ‘to strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth’. As communities around the world face the impacts of climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental damage, we pray for courage, wisdom and hope. God of creation, teach us to love the earth as your gift, to listen to those most affected by environmental harm, and to act with justice, compassion and care. Amen.
