I’ve spent 30 years in high-vis vests and hard hats. I’ve seen vendors come and go, but the Windows XP machine in Substation B is eternal.

IT kid with a beard told me my "legacy hardware" is a security vulnerability. Son, that "legacy hardware" has been running 24/7 since before your parents met at a Coldplay concert. It doesn't have an IP address. You can't "hack" a mechanical relay. Go back to your standing desk

Neighbor is trying to assemble a "smart" electric mower with a tiny Allen wrench. He looked like he was defusing a bomb. Offered him a real socket wrench and said it was "very ergonomic." We used to build empires; now we cry over plastic tools. 🛠️🙄 #Grit #RealWork

Neighbor returned my socket wrench and said he used to have a better one, but "lost it". I asked where he kept his tools...He said, "kinda everywhere"...He told me this WITHOUT a shred of embarrassment..They just don't make men like they used to.

I don't trust a man whose garage isn't organized. If you can't find your 10mm socket in under 5 seconds, how am I supposed to trust you with a network architecture? These things are related. I will not be taking questions. TIA - Bobby

Spent two hours on the John Deere. Those stripes in the St. Augustine are straighter than any "security roadmap" I saw in San Francisco. Barbara brought me a glass of iced tea...sweet enough to stop a heart, just the way I like it. This is the only "optimization" I need.

THIS. IS. ME. Barbara always encourages me as well.

I told the SBOM vendor: You’ve successfully turned a functional system into a liability report. I don't need a list of 500 "vulnerabilities" in software I didn't write. I need the machine to run w/o hitting a safety trip because some scanner thinks a legacy library is "unsecured"

Barbara asked what I want for Father's Day. I said "a day where nobody sends me a LinkedIn message about IT/OT convergence." She said "be realistic." I said "fine. New channel locks." Everyone's happy. Marriage is about compromise.

I have three rules for the weekend: 1. The lawn gets mowed before 9 AM. 2. The Budweiser doesn't get opened before noon. 3. Nobody says the words "cloud," "AI," or "quick call" in my house.

✂️ Isolation saves time. Map clean “cut points” to separate OT from business/third‑party networks during a cyber event. The #CIFortify hub shows how to do it safely. Start here: cisa.gov/fortify

IT kid tried to install "security agents" on the HMI for the #2 turbine. I told him if that SOB lags for even a millisecond bc of a background update, he’s coming out to the floor to explain to the plant manager (Buck) why we’re losin his yearly salary an hour. #OTSecurity

Freaking @Claroty. I love some of you guys, but you have to be the most bandwagon vendor out there. Heads up...@nozominetworks is nearly 10 years ahead of you with ai. And @nozominetworks don't think you're getting off unscathed...New day tomorrow.

Some rep tried to tell Jerry my refusal to update the PLCs was just "legacy thinking." Jerry said,"Bob is the only reason this plant hasn't had a safety trip since 93." Play me against the CISO & you’re gonna lose. Jerry’s got a fancy desk now, but he still respects the floor.

Monday morning: The blower is screamin, the coffee is bitter, and the IT guys are talking about "digital transformation." I’m just trying to make it to lunch without a hardware failure. 🛠️☕️ #MondayBlues #OTLife

A GREAT example of the potential severity differences between a breach on your email server or a control system. "Hate your emails stopped sending....BUT DID YOU DIE?" **Everyone was safe and this wasn't a hack that I know of....Point remains the same.
A terrifying roller coaster rescue is underway in Galveston, Texas Thursday. A car became stuck on a vertical track, leaving eight people dangling at the very top of the ride. Firefighters are using a long-ladder truck to reach the riders several stories above the ground. Crews are working to remove each rider from the ride by gently catching them and lowering them into the basket at the end of the ladder, before walking them down an incredibly steep structure to safety. We naming software like it’s a new hire now? @Claroty Claire sounds like she should be organizing the tool crib, not running "mission-critical infrastructure." If I see an "AI agent" trying to optimize my legacy boilers, I’m pulling the main breaker. 🔌👊 #OTSecurity #PlantLife

Side note...I knew a brunette named Claire before I met Barbara..... Let's just say, she was similar to a 7-11 or Waffle House. "ALWAYS OPEN" and "EASILY COMPROMISED"

Dear, @CVEannounce : Most of my plant is held together by WD-40, prayers, and 40-year-old relays that don't even know what an IP address is. You’re shouting at clouds. Send me a CVE for a rusted-out pipe and then we’ll talk.

FINALLY..... A tech vendor who does something I need. Appreciate you @copiaautomation . Although, I feel the need to mention you need to get your fellas some of their own hardhats. Also, if needing a new HQ headquarters, Midland has beautiful mild winters. #Texas #OT #OTsecurity
