The misadventures of a Chicago lovin' nerd, sassmouth, & typo queen. Too many interests for my own good. Urban planning, historic preservation, food & bev, dogs
At salt shed tonight and reminded of when it was an actual salt factory and the wall broke and salt poured all over a bunch of the cars at the dealership next door
A week from tonight, we welcome back the Off Color Discussion Series, a series of guided talks and tastings we’ll be hosting in the Mousetrap Foeder Room over the course of the year. The first one kicks off during #CiderCon a week from tonight on Wednesday, February 5th at 8pm.
Not like followers matter anymore over here, but hot damn, the # has plummeted. Imagine it’s tweeps deleting their accounts. I’m too sentimental to delete the damn thing - 2008 till now is a lot of time - but made it private & moving over to BSky. Maybe it’ll stick this time?
Mary McLeod Bethune, national leader, college founder, journalist, entrepreneur & champion of democracy & gender & racial equality. She advised two US presidents on federal councils & led efforts to end lynching, integrate the armed services, advance education, & register voters.
Folks are way too awake for this 7:10 am flight to Vegas. They better STFU once we’re in the air. Yer girl is operating on < 4 hours of sleep and Day 6 of Back Pain, I’m not fucking around with this nap I’m about to enjoy.
A CTA L operator did an Ask Me Anything on Reddit, and I found their insights on the job and the organization as a whole really interesting. reddit.com/r/chicago/comment…
ISO one ticket to @st_vincent’s Wednesday show at the Metro. 🙏🏻🔥🎸
Was queued up when tix went on sale, but wasn’t one of the lucky ones. I’ve only gotten to see STV at fests, she’s one of my faves, this is a bucket list experience for me.
Lemme know if you hear of one!!
Today marks 10 weeks at CACC, meeting all the strays & surrenders. And no surprise, they’re all the best!
Pups only get outside 2-3x a week for 15 min. The shelter is overcapacity & if they don’t get rescued, this is the end for them. So we make it count, we follow their lead 💗
How did a small bar from Wisconsin become world famous—and why are the bar's bumper stickers spotted gracing mountain tops, sail boats, and famous landmarks around the world?

This is my route to CACC (I drive the 13 miles RT). Marshall/24th was closed for awhile, I had no idea why, so when it reopened and this beautiful new infrastructure appeared, I was so stoked!

Any tuned-in, plugged-in Chicago people have advice for these IRL Budget Engagement meetings being held this week and next? I have ltd access to data so just wondering how to effectively communicate with the official city people on-hand 😂

Love how the encore is the super sad song from City of Angels and now I wanna go home and cry at Megan Ryan and Nick Cage like I’m 15 again. #pitchfork
Unfortunately, there has been opposition to extending the Ashland bus north from Irving Park. So your support is very much needed. We're looking for people to provide public comment at the 7/10 committee meeting. Please contact jim@activetrans.org if interested.
Driven past this church for decades & only recently discovered my gr8-grandparents were married there (1912) & it was likely both families parish (bapt. record from 1895). I rly wanted to see it IRL - turns out the final mass was in May. Just missed it 😞 blockclubchicago.org/2024/06…
