This year marks the 20th anniversary of our first point & click adventure, Secret Files: Tunguska. Although we’ve been working on the action adventure Gabby's Odyssey for some time, we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to celebrate the anniversary of this classic – which is why we’re also working on a remastered version. Our goal isn’t just to “polish it up,” but to give it a thorough renovation without losing its original charm. To achieve this, we’re dusting off every pixel by hand (DLSS 5? What’s that? 😉), making the game ready for modern systems, and carefully refining its gameplay, UI, and overall player experience.

It’s all about the details! As we wrap up the week, we’d like to share another tiny glimpse into our current work on the Secret Files: Tunguska remaster. This time under the motto: Small details. Big difference. As mentioned before, we aim to keep the visual updates within reasonable limits to preserve the original look and feel as much as possible. But that doesn’t mean we’re stopping at simply re-rendering the backgrounds in higher resolution and expanding the scenes for widescreen support. Through many small — and sometimes barely noticeable — improvements, we want to make the world of Secret Files: Tunguska feel more alive and believable. We’d like to illustrate this with two examples. In the video, you can see a scene from Nina’s father’s living room. The rotating ceiling fan now casts a shadow in the remaster, adding more depth to the room. Also, our aquarium fish have become more “alive.” In the original, we created an animation loop made up of 50 individual frames (which we were very proud of at the time). While the loop is hardly noticeable, the fish repeat the same movement every two seconds… over and over again. A bit sad, right? For the remaster, we’ve now implemented real-time fish with randomized movement patterns, making them feel much more natural. This may sound like a minor detail that doesn’t really affect the core gameplay. And that’s true! But we genuinely enjoy working on these little things and making the remaster of Secret Files: Tunguska a game you’ll love to experience all over again. And one more thing: we definitely won’t reveal all the small improvements, surprises, and easter eggs that await you in the new version. store.steampowered.com/app/4…

Today, we’re sharing another small look at Secret Files: Tunguska – Remastered. This time, we’re focusing on how we rework the original 4:3 backgrounds — not just upscaling them, but carefully extending them for true widescreen, smooth camera scrolling, and subtle parallax effects.

Hello Secret Files community, thank you so much for all the amazing feedback and your kind comments — it truly means a lot to us! 😊 It’s wonderful to see how fondly Nina and Max’s first adventure is still remembered. As a small thank you, we’d love to share the *Secret Files* and *Lost Horizon* soundtracks with you: animationarts.de/soundtracks… animationarts.de/soundtracks… You might notice that only one track from the original Secret Files: Tunguska made it into the list — which is one of the reasons why we’d like to expand the soundtrack in the remastered version. Wishlist Secret Files: Tunguska – Remastered: store.steampowered.com/app/4… Your support really helps us — thank you!

We’re currently working on the enhanced version of our point & click classic Secret Files: Tunguska! Our goal: preserve the original atmosphere while improving visuals and fixing technical issues. One bigger update: the T-Rex in the Berlin museum — now with much more detail and a stronger overall look. Original vs. Remastered 👇

A lot of work also goes into small details: Inventory items went from 64×64 pixels to up to 1K resolution. More detail — but also a lot of reworking behind the scenes.

Most changes stay subtle though. The Ireland opening scene mainly benefits from higher resolution, improved lighting, and some added animation — without changing the original feel.

In lofty heights, the islands of the Cloud Gardens float above the world — a realm shaped by creativity and artistic expression. Here, Gabby faces different challenges than in the tropical Pirate’s Cove — less "brute force", more imagination, rhythm, and clever problem-solving. Our Steam page is now live — wishlist and follow the journey: store.steampowered.com/app/3…
