🚨‼️A salmon farming company misled regulators not once, but twice. Firstly, by falsely claiming a farm had no fish in, but later was caught out by locals for having abandoned animals in sea cages to slowly starve and die from lice and disease. Secondly, by then informing regulators that just five fish were affected, when covert footage obtained by @animal_equality showed dozens were removed and beaten to death by workers. “Whether that’s down to incom­pet­ence or delib­er­ate decep­tion, neither is reas­sur­ing. Anim­als are being aban­doned to starve and rot in lice-infes­ted waters. Com­pan­ies are mis­lead­ing reg­u­lat­ors. Inspect­ors are con­duct­ing vis­its by phone. And the Scot­tish Gov­ern­ment calls this world-class reg­u­la­tion. Pull on any thread and the whole thing unravels. For years, the animal welfare agency inspecting Scottish salmon farms refused to share what it found - claiming releasing inspection reports would “likely result in significant detriment to the companies, negatively impacting their ability to conduct business" and "manage their reputation". That excuse has just been thrown out. Government watchdog, the Information Commissioner's Office, has ruled that the Animal and Plant Health Agency had no valid grounds to withhold its inspection reports from the public. The reports that we have seen so far reveal: 🐟 100,000 fish were suffocated, and another one million were poisoned. No enforcement action taken. 🐟 600,000 fish dead at another farm from hydrogen sulphide; the same problem occurred months later, killing 1.5 million more animals. No enforcement action taken. 🐟 A farm saw over 200,000 mortalities but never reported a single death. There is no record of APHA ever visiting the site. We’re back on the streets holding @Kroger accountable for its broken cage-free promise 🐔 Years ago, Kroger - one of the largest US supermarket chains - pledged to end cages. Instead, it broke that promise and continues to profit from millions of hens trapped in cruel cages. Today, we protested outside @Scotiabank in London because Kroger board member Nora Aufreiter also sits on Scotiabank’s board. Companies connected to Kroger’s leadership cannot stay silent while animals suffer.
