I was writing about land reform in West Bengal last night and was curious if it had persistent effects on the ownership distribution. So I did what anyone would do, I* wrote an academic paper on it Turns out — yes! 1/

The deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan could end one of the world’s most intractable conflicts and a regional detente. Whether that happens will be a test of American diplomacy and of the countries themselves economist.com/europe/2025/08…

Which is true? 1. None of his advisors understand percentage changes. 2. At least some know Trump’s spouting nonsense but feel they can’t tell him. 3. Some actually tell Trump his math makes no sense and he ignores them.

Amazing how Groningen city center is being constantly improved and made convenient for pedestrians and cyclers. When your city changes that often no need to move anywhere 😉

This paper confirms my belief that figuring out how to effectively employ LLMs at scale in education is one of the most important research problems of the day (and no, the answer is not “replace teachers with AI”). Huge potential returns, and the worst case is already happening

I taught that new Anthropic paper "on the biology of LLMs" today and I just wrote a huge thread explaining it. Unfortunately that thread got deleted. But Twitter assured me it wasn't my fault. Anyway, here's a substack that explained it. causalinf.substack.com/p/ins…

Just seeing the RCT 'scandal' brewing among econs again. This is not a question about some bad apples or some instances of malpractice. The RCT industry has been completely distorted from its inception in Econ and this is closely tied to the incentive structure of the discipline.

Ok, Bluesky it is. I guess the time has come for me to move there too.
I've decided that my econometrics posts will be over on Bluesky for the time being. I might repost some of them here, but no promises.
