So excited about this project! My institute is teaming up with the only museum dedicated to the craft of beadwork to create a truly remarkable—AND GLITTERY— science-art & education experience in 2026. See how you can participate in one of the planned exhibits in this thread below

The Microbe Institute is teaming up with the Museum of Beadwork to bring you an extra special challenge this year! Microbes & Mushrooms: Nature's Artistry in Detail. We challenge you to create a beaded artwork piece that introduces audiences to the microbial realm. #sciart

The misunderstanding of microbes is a fundamental challenge in environmental education and a source of needless fear. The Museum of Beadwork and the Microbe Institute want to change that. So let’s do something really big by getting really small. Join us! PLUS.... #scicomm

This competition offers artists the chance to have their artwork in a museum! This is the perfect project to share with your #sciart friends, your #beaders, the artists you know, or know of. We can't wait to see what you can create! museumofbeadwork.org/pages/m…

Gave a webinar on careers in science communication today as part of @harvardmed's graduate career navigator series. I managed to bring up whales, unicorns, and gingerbread in an on-topic way, I swear. #scicomm

The firings at NSF are awful. I'm a scientist whose graduate research--on the microbes of wasps--was the example of the basic sci. they fund. A decade later, this research led to patented brewing technology that is commercialized across the world but that's not all. #NSF #scicomm

This tiny original funding helped me train other scientists, publish new findings on our world, discover a new species of fungus to science, & give a TED talk (w/ > 1.6M views. A TED talk at a conference where other speakers that week included Serena Williams, Elon, and the pope.

In a discussion with NSF staff in 2024, I shared how thankful I was for the NSF GRFP program and how it changed my life. We talked about how this was a story they wanted to highlight this year, as that program turned 75. I'm happy to share it with any reporter if it helps.

Bacteria in puddles dance like fish in currents, revealing nature's hidden rhythms. Trust the water's wisdom. Even the smallest drop can hold secrets.

It's been an honor to work w/this team hunting for microbes as sources of natural dyes. Please check out our other efforts at The Microbe Institute to serve as "NASA for the microbial cosmos," by democratizing microbial discovery for a better tomorrow. microbeinstitute.org/
Brooke Jude (@JudeLab_Bard) teamed up with @AnneAMadden of The Microbe Institute and @ATW80Fabrics to harness purple-pigmented microbes for use in sustainable dyeing practices. bit.ly/3U08JnN
