Interesting development related to the US government regulating Anthropic models Mythos and Fable. Looks like Dario is once again being a bad actor in all of this.
I’ve had a number of conversations with folks inside and outside government about the current situation with Anthropic, and here is what I believe to be true: — As we know, Anthropic publicly released its Mythos class models earlier this week under the commercial name Fable. — Fable is Mythos with guardrails. But if those guardrails fail, then you’ve exposed Mythos and its advanced cyber capabilities to people who shouldn’t have them. (Keep in mind that Anthropic itself widely promoted the idea that Mythos was a cyberweapon and needed to be regulated as such. They asked for government regulation of Mythos and championed the guardrails on Fable. If there is a vulnerability — big or small — it is Anthropic’s responsibility to patch.) — A highly credible trusted partner of both Anthropic and the USG who was testing Fable came forward with a jailbreak of those guardrails. The Admin asked Dario to fix the jailbreak or de-deploy the model. Dario refused. — In their blog post, Anthropic defended its decision by saying the jailbreak isn’t serious. That is not what the trusted partner and the USG believe; nor is that kind of minimizing language consistent with Anthropic’s brand as the AI safety company. It’s difficult to fathom how they could claim a jailbreak allowing operability of a cyber weapon could be defined as not “serious.” — In the past, Anthropic has always said that safety must be top priority and taken super seriously. In this case, Anthropic prioritized the continued offering of the consumer model over safety. — In reaction, the Admin issued the export control. The Admin did this reluctantly. It’s been very surprised that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to cooperate with a reasonable safety request (ie fixing the jailbreak issue). Anthropic’s reaction is very much at odds with their branding and ethos as a safe AI research community. — The Admin’s hope now is that Anthropic remediates the safety issue, the export control is lifted, and Fable goes back into general release. The Admin wants all of this to happen as soon as possible. It is frankly bewildered that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to comply with safety requests that it previously said were its highest priority. — Those trying to misdirect and tie this action to the prior DoW/Anthropic issues are wrong. The Admin values Anthropic’s technical capabilities and feels that this issue, while serious, should be easily resolved. The ball is in Anthropic’s court.

Having a tech company with only American citizens who are multigenerational Heritage Americans is now a moat.
JUST IN: Anthropic says a “huge percentage” of its own employees are now barred from accessing Fable 5 & Mythos 5 under U.S. restrictions.

The “tax the rich” people want to prevent these kind of opportunities by robbing wealth creators of the means of producing these kind of outcomes.
bro immigrated from Mexico and took a $28/hr contract welding job in 2015. didn't even know what SpaceX was. they gave him $10,000 in stock and let him buy more through payroll deductions. that stake is now worth $880,000. and he's one of 4,400 employees who became millionaires on Friday. welders. technicians. cafeteria staff.

People in tech companies are soon gonna learn about SF-85s and SF-86s questionnaires. They'll also learn about EAR, ITAR and other export controls prior to getting hired by Frontier AI model and AI infra companies. Demand for NIST, ISO, CMMC, FedRamp and GSA is gonna grow.

She's right. AI, Space, Nuclear and other Deep Tech fields will start getting locked down nationally even more than they already are. Export and access controls means lots of jobs for Americans.
Only the Government, Government Contractor companies, Frontier AI Labs, and specific tech companies will have access to the best AI.

In the future, you’ll have to be a US citizen and possibly have security clearance to work in frontier model companies. Either the entire company will move in this direction or secret departments or labs will be spun off where they work on AI and other deep tech (nuclear)

Open source AI models will become more over time as the demand for privacy, need for security and attempts to regulate AI grow.

could not ask for better marketing on why open source AI models available for use by anyone without disclosing your personal data will be extremely important there are some crypto protocols being built that are uniquely positioned to solve this problem

For your long term portfolio, trust and other entity accounts, SpaceX is a solid buy. Buy and wait for years.

I’m look to get involved post lockup. The Starlink business is solid and the cloud deals like the one with Google means that there’s real revenue.

Only reason I’m bearish on $SPCX at listing even though I know it will go higher at the IPO is because of lockups. Plus I know Wall Street is saving some capital for Anthropic and OpenAI going public soon. The neocloud deals are great but token usage is rolling over.

Curious to see how the SpaceX IPO goes.
This is absolutely insane: The SpaceX IPO has now drawn more than $70 BILLION worth of retail orders alone. SpaceX is raising $75 billion, making retail interest ALONE enough to nearly fill the entire sale. To put this in perspective, the previous record IPO was Saudi Aramco in 2020 at $29.4 billion. This means that retail interest in SpaceX is now 2.4 TIMES larger than the total amount raised in the previous largest IPO in history. As a result, SpaceX has announced that 20% of their IPO will be allocated to retail investors, following through on @elonmusk's vision to democratize the record IPO. Nothing even remotely near what SpaceX is about to do has ever happened. Friday will be a historic day.

I shared this note earlier today with the entire team at Opendoor. Today we began to say goodbye to our colleagues in India as we wind down our India operations. Our customers are in America, and that's where our operational work belongs.

The South Carolina low country is an area like no other. I drive through this area when traveling the Atlantic coast. Lots of history as well. Many towns have been around since the 1700s. You’re know you’re in the right place when you see the Spanish Moss.
Inside South Carolina's Forgotten River Towns | Full Documentary The Pee Dee region is one of the most overlooked corners of the American South. We travelled more than 100 miles across rural South Carolina, exploring forgotten tobacco country and sprawling river swamps. There, we met the people who define one of America's most forgotten regions. 0:00 Intro 1:23 Pamplico, SC 5:07 Greeleyville, SC 5:32 Sharecropper Memories 10:53 Scott’s BBQ 13:29 St. Stephens, SC 13:38 Cowboy the Can Man 16:23 Effects of Hurricane Hugo 17:11 Into the Backcountry 19:37 McClellanville 20:04 Outro

One thing the South should bring back is industry towns along train tracks. Lots of formerly great towns exist next to train tracks. And with the right industry could serve as great commuter and industrial routes.

Spain is experiencing Chattanooga, TN. Argentina is in Auburn, Alabama. Germans are eating Waffle House. Brits are still complaining. This World Cup has been amazing and it hasn’t even started yet.
