At The Mauritshuis there is an exhibition of Stephen Vanfleteren. It is becoming common, many museums depicting contemporary art amongst the permanent collections. Not sure how I feel about this going forward. No disrespect to the artist in question. 1/2

If I want to see contemporary art I go to their exhibitions but if I want to see Baroque art I go to A baroque museum. I see what they are trying to achieve but keep them separate. I don’t like being dictated to 💙

The Mocking of Christ by van Honthorst 1617. He captures the pain and sorrow of Christ beautifully. The smiling faces of the soldiers add to the drama making it a very uncomfortable painting to witness. Brilliant artist. 💙 photos I took in Utrecht

One of my favourite paintings in The Mauritshuis. Rembrandt’s Simeon’s song of praise 1631. The detail in Simeon’s robe, the apprehension on the face of Mary and Rembrandt’s treatment of light. Our eyes focus on the raised paint on Jesus’ clothing. I love it 💙

At the van Honthorst exhibition today they had 3 Interactive booths. When you walked in you could hear sounds of the theme of the painting. It was beautifully curated. Hats off to Utrecht Museum Centraal. Brilliantly curated and Spacious. 💙

I am in Utrecht at the Van Honthorst exhibition and it is stunning. It is beautifully curated. The lighting is superb. I have to admit one of the finest exhibitions I have ever seen. A totally immersive experience. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Bravo 🙌 🙌🙌🙌
