Ever wondered why the character count on an online application portal doesn't match the character count on Word?
Perhaps this holds the key...
ALT Text says "If the text editor does not wrap the text at the end of the line (e.g. Microsoft Word formats your text by beginning a new line as you near the end of the page to form paragraphs. Whereas Notepad would simply continue on in one big line unless you pressed "Enter") and you press the "Enter" key then this will account for 2 characters any time a line has been ended this way. Also the following list contains some examples of characters that can account for up to 7 characters when automatically generated by a text editor: 1 - Bullet Points 2 - Arrows 3 - Auto Numbering 4 - Tabbed spacing"
A few years ago I went through a phase of devouring books on storytelling. For #NationalStorytellingWeek here are some that I found particularly useful when it came to shaping the way I use storytelling in fundraising.
ALT A stack of six books about storytelling. It includes The Storytelling Animal, Made to Stick, Tell to Win, Telling True Stories, Wired for Story and Storytelling for Grantseekers

ALT Apollo Fundraising logo with a party hat on, surrounded by colourful balloons
ALT A picture of me wearing a garish shirt, with a quote from the podcast that says "In 2020, we saw organisations make their annual fundraising target in three months. Making really carefully worded, really open, really honest appeals to their supporters saying we really need you. Saying if you valued us coming into the pandemic and you want us to still be here when we come out the other side of this, we need your help today...The challenge now is how do organisations continue with that when that very visceral threat to their existence isn't there."
I haven't written a festive blog this year, so I'm recycling this one from two years ago...
