New research estimates the cost of recovering Australia’s threatened species to be a whopping AU$583B per year for at least 30 years. While the figure isn’t proposed as a realistic budget for biodiversity conservation, it highlights the sheer scale of work to be done. @ConversationEDU @april_reside @UQscience theconversation.com/fully-re…

The best part of my job is working with fantastic, dedicated people who are doing great things for conservation. Honours student Emilee Thomson wrote this great blog about her research. Enjoy! 🦎 ❤️ Dragon detection – Finding the Condamine earless dragon wildlifeconservationlab.com/…

This local habitat is under immediate threat from development. It is one of the few places in the greater Brisbane area that contains the iconic Frill-necked Lizard! The endangered Collared Delma (Delma torquata) is also suspected to be here. Petition: queenslandconservation.org.a…

What can inner city residents do to repair our environment - Q from @PressClubAust - urban spaces are disproportionately important for biodiversity & threatened species; keeping this biodiversity in cities increases people's exposure to nature. So important and needs care!

This government promised big on nature but is not delivering - no strong laws and standards to protect, no resources to restore and recover. Hopeless.
Disappointing on so many levels. There is still a massive chasm between what is needed to deliver the commitments made by the @AlboMP Government to end extinctions and be nature-positive and the peanuts in the budget. 🥜🥜🥜

Inspirational; but also a sad truth - we all need to work to save the remaining patches of vegetation around us. Left to the powers-that-be, it would be whittled away, 'offset' etc until very little is left. abc.net.au/news/2024-05-13/t…

This morning I lay witness to perhaps 20% of the entire Swift Parrot population. Thrill and despair in the same scene. To think they could be extinct within a decade. We need to do more. Their value is greater than that of harvested timber.

This is a heartbreaking day for so many across the country who care for nature, and especially for the local people and Traditional Owners who have fought so hard to protect this amazing place, and its wildlife much of which will now die. So much for ‘nature positive’.

It was so nice to finally present my honours research at #AusBatSoc2024 after workshopping the idea at the 2022 conference!
Do artificial light have species-specific effects based on foraging activity? @Rani_S_Davis says yes! Especially for slow close-edge foragers #AusBatSoc2024
