There are approximately 120 known sacred nuragic wells or Pozzo Sacros on Sardinia. Most people who have seen one have seen only one: the Pozzo Sacro Santa Cristina which admittedly looks like something straight out of Zelda. I’m here today to show you another one, the Pozzo Sacro Predio Canopoli. It was discovered in 1923 when a gentlemen was excavating his property for a construction project. Disregard the modern mortar fixes visible, the Nuragic civ did not use mortar and fit everything without it. Also note the nubs on many of the blocks in the third video and a photo of how this Pozzo sacro is believed to have looked when it was first constructed.

From the 5th millennium BC, Sardinia. Dated to between 4000-5000 BC. “Goddess with Child” found in Sos Badulesos and today kept in the MAP Museo Archeologico Paleobotanico di Perfugas. Interesting symbolism they were expressing in Sardinia 7000 years ago!

San Agustin, Colombia (left) Chimu, Peru (middle) Aztec, Mexico (right). Related or nah? Shared symbolism or nah? Absolute irrefutable evidence of cultural transmission between cultures or no? Can we all just agree on this one thing?

I was under the impression Teotihuacan was built by the Teotihuacanos who exhibited a mix of Mayan, Zapotec and Mixtec cultural elements?
“Nobody knows who built it” and “the Vatican has the documents” cannot both be true. Pick one.

My favorite Birdman is the Birdman of Lascaux from 17,000 BC. Not to be confused with the winged genies of Sumer, Thoth of Egypt, the birdman of Jiroft, Iran, Garuda of India, the birdman of Easter Island, the Birdmen of Peru or the birdman of Cahokia.

I used to live in Hawaii and while I was there looked into the Menehune. I was intrigued by reports of a dwarfish race that inhabited the islands before the arrival of the Polynesians. To summarize my findings: 1. On the island of Kauai there are precise-fit megalithic constructions of artificial fish ponds that are widely accepted on Kauai to be the work of the Menehune. 2. At the same time, when asked about the Menehune on any other island, locals will often become defensive or angered at the question, and assert quite adamantly that they don’t exist and never did. “Stop asking” was the strong message I received. 3. Some claim the Menehune still live undetected in the jungles and forests of Hawaii. I have no personal beliefs as to the existence or non-existence now or in the past of the Menehune. The fish ponds of Kauai however were the only precise megalithic constructions I found anywhere on the Hawaiin islands. Whether they existed or not, the discovery of Homo Floresiensis proves that a species of hominid that matches the description did exist, albeit in Indonesia which is not terribly removed from Hawaii.

I didn't realize this, but if you google "kauai fish pond" the first two results are actually "menehune fish pond" and "menehune fish pond overlook". No photos of the actual masonry though, I hope someone can share some high quality photos of the "menehune" construction for the public record!

Easter Island - Peru connections megathread 🧵 This one probably is less controversial than potential connections between Gobekli Tepe and Easter Island, in part because they are oceanic neighbors, in part because there is now a clear DNA link between Polynesia and South America, and in part because the cultures referenced in these photos existed at the same time. That said, it is still intriguing. First up, the birdman, known as Tongata Manu to the Easter islanders, with petroglyphs abound and also a yearly competition to crown a king for the island. Left we have a rock art depiction of Tongata Manu from Easter Island and right we have a replica of a section of a Tucume pyramid built by the Lambayque culture circa 1000 AD prominently featuring Birdmen. That said there are countless examples of Birdmen featured prominently in much of the ancient art of Peru spanning many cultures.

Near Machu Piccu in the town of aguas calientes there is a modern statue of Ayar Auca, of the legendary auca brothers who founded Cusco. It is said ayar auca transformed into a bird and flew to the spot where Cusco would be founded. Speaking of Birdmen, just how did the Easter Islanders arrive at the intriguing tradition of crowning their yearly king a Birdman through a grueling competition of retrieving an egg from the nearby islet of Moto Nui? Its origins are shrouded in mystery to this day.

You see these a lot in collection of Peruvian antiquities. It is of course a Tumi knife (left), used to making sacrifices, the figures on Tumi knives almost always have the hands on navel posture. Right is a Moai replica which I’m including in part because you can see the hands but also just to give you an idea of how enormous some of the Moai truly are

Geographical connection: when the sea level was lower, it appears there may have been a land bridge between Peru and Easter Island. It’s on my to-do list to play around with sea level mapping to see how low we have to g to exposure this submerged land.

Navel idols (of course) one needn’t look far in either place to find plenty of figures with their hands coming together at the navel. By now we all know every Moai had their hands in this position (left) and go into just about any museum in Peru and you’ll find many examples of the same. The right three photographs are of an artifact from the Chimu culture of Peru I encountered the other day at the Kon Tiki museum in Oslo.

Easter Island / Cusco / The Navel of the Earth Easter island and Cusco Peru both bear the same ancient t name: The Navel of the Earth. Easter Island’s original name was Te Pito O Te Henua, which translate into the navel of the world, and the word Cusco had the same meaning in Quechua. While Cusco (right) has some of the finest ancient masonry anywhere on the planet, Ahu Vinapu on Easter Island (left) has been noted for having notable Peruvian influence.
