ALT Written description of opportunity to join the Coverdale Lab at Notre Dame. Contact @tylerccoverdale for more information (and apologies for having to include this as a JPEG).
ALT A Barleria trispinosa at Mpala Research Centre in Kenya. Research in the lab includes several projects related to the ecology and evolution of plant defenses.
ALT An elephant in front of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Research in the lab also focuses on the effects of large herbivore extinction on plant communities, particularly in African savannas.
ALT Researchers surveying vegetation in the floodplain at Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique. We are seeking collaborative and kind folks to join the lab and build a positive, supportive lab culture.
What drives human-baboon encounters in the semi-arid landscape of Amboseli?? Water availability!

1/7 Do different hosts have different microbiome ecologies π¦ π§¬π? @kimberlyeroche tackled this question in the @AmboseliBaboons, and we're ready to share the preprint! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/β¦
6/7 surprisingly, many of the patterns we found in baboons were replicated in a time series data set from human infants. Bacterial family pairs that were consistently correlated in baboons also tended to be universal in babies πΆπ¦ πΆπ¦ πΆ!
7/7 Knowing the overall direction and strength of microbial relationships within hosts, and their generalizability across hosts, should help us learn how microbial ecology scales up to affect microbiome assembly, dynamics, and host health.
I hope @ESA_org will be addressing the fact that most international participants to #ESA2022 and particularly African students have not been able to get visa to enter Canada. Most have cancelled their talks including two of my students. #DEI
We are very excited to announce our virtual symposium series, kicking off on 12 Aug with an exciting line-up focussed on longitudinal dynamics of the microbiome ππ¦
