Disappearing sea ice is a significant element of the food web supporting female walruses & their dependent young in the Chukchi Sea. Scientists traced biomarkers unique to sea ice algae to connect marine mammals w a diminishing food source conta.cc/3kkqLyc #ClimateChange

Abstract submissions now open! #ASSW2021
Check out the Distributed Biological Observatory portal on @arcticdatactr arcticdata.io/catalog/portal…

New feature alert! #Arctic #researchers can now create a portal with @arcticdatactr to see #data from across the #catalog all in one place. Each #portal can be branded with logos and colors and has a customizable URL. Check it out and make your own today! buff.ly/2WkAbha

PhD Student Christina Goethel (@ArcticChristina) sprays away mud from the invertebrates (clams, worms, etc.) brought up from the seafloor. These critters come home to be identified, sorted and counted to tell us about the biomass and community composition at the DBO hot spots.

Sea ice in the Bering Sea reached record-low levels in winter 2018. Much to the scientists’ surprise, 2019 just missed eclipsing that record. go.usa.gov/xVxzV

Congratulations to Arctic CBL lab member @seawegs for this @NPRBscience award to further pursue her research using sea ice algae biomarkers to better understand the utilization of ice algae throughout the Pacific Arctic food web
With a prestigious $25,000 graduate student research award from @NPRBscience, Ph.D. candidate Chelsea Wegner will be able to continue & expand her study of the potential impact of the loss of ice algae on the Pacific #Arctic food web. ow.ly/lcRK50uIYxs #ClimateChange
