@AreaPashan members attended ths gathering of concerned citizens 4m Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, & PMRDA areas. It's high time individuals, citizen forums, & subject experts come together to get our cities, state & nation on track
On the occasion of upcoming #EnvironmentDay on the 5th of June, this open public interaction was organised with all the groups and individual citizens who are actively working on civic issues and environmental concerns of Pune. I spoke for @VTBKS_Pune on #VetalTekdi challenges and updates, and how the road projects planned on the tekdi should be deleted from the DP. Pune is suffering because of failing governance by @PMCPune and state government. Much of the #citizenactivism today is due to this failure. But citizens fall weak in many ways- lack of resources , know-how of the system, accessibility and availability of data etc. This knowledge-sharing was to address this gap and was the first of its kind. Issues included #PuneRFD #SaveVetalTekdi #Climatechallenges #urbanheatislands #UDCPR #medicalwastemanagement #treefelling #watermanagement among others

Pune's garbage collection system is facing a massive crisis, and the reason behind it is absolutely shocking. Out of over 10,000 workers assigned to keep our city clean, only about 40% are actually doing their jobs on the ground. A detailed internal report by the solid waste management department reveals that around 450 to 500 sanitation workers are allegedly deployed at the private residences of political leaders, including MLAs, corporators, and former office-bearers. Instead of cleaning the streets, these municipal employees are reportedly being used for personal duties like housekeeping and driving, all while drawing their full salaries from the taxpayer-funded PMC budget. What makes it worse is that this isn't a new issue. The investigation shows that some workers have been completely absent from their original cleaning postings for 5 to 10 years. Even though a detailed report on this mess was submitted to senior civic officials last year, political pressure and frequent transfers of senior officers have successfully delayed any concrete action. With the city's cleanliness visibly suffering, PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has now stepped in and ordered a strict verification process, promising that anyone found guilty of exploiting the system will face consequences. #Punetimesmirror #PuneNews #PMC #WasteManagement #CivicIssues

The land acquisition process for the proposed Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje International Airport in Purandar taluka, Pune has gained significant momentum. District Collector Jitendra Dudi announced that farmers will receive an average compensation of Rs. 1.61 crore per acre (approx. Rs. 3.79 crore per hectare), inclusive of market value, 100% solatium and other components. A total of 1216.75 hectares across seven villages has been designated for the project. Compensation will be transferred directly to farmers' bank accounts via RTGS in a fully transparent manner. Special camps will be organized from May 6 to June 10, 2026 for document submission. The project is expected to bring massive employment and industrial opportunities to Pune district! #PurandarAirport #PuneAirport #Pune #MaharashtraDevelopment #FarmerCompensation

Do attend the next KnOT this Thursday to listen to @sumitakale talk about the curious case of the BB road on #Vetaltekdi Understand why PMC is so keen on building this 300 cr road, even when their own studies show that 2k trees will be cut, groundwater will be seriously impacted while very little reduction will be seen on Law College road traffic. (Hint - the desperation to build this road has very little to do with traffic 😉)
The next Pune Knowledge on Tap is by @sumitakale on our tekdi and the Balbharati-Paud Phata Link road: "The Curious Case of PMC and the BB-PP Road" This Thursday, 6:30pm, at Wynkk Aundh Registration details in the next tweet.

A major accident unfolded at Vanaz Chowk in Kothrud, Pune, this morning when a PMPML bus lost control after its brakes failed and rammed into a municipal garbage collection vehicle parked in front of Smita Exports India Pvt Ltd. The impact was so severe that a sanitation worker sitting on the garbage vehicle was flung onto the road and critically injured. The worker was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital where his condition is reported to be serious. The incident has once again raised serious questions over the poor maintenance of PMPML buses. #Pune #PMPML #VanazChowk #BusAccident #PuneNews

This is how your “strong” tea gets its colour. Not premium leaves, but synthetic dyes. 3,000 kg of adulterated tea powder with artificial colours and other substances seized in Hyderabad. What you see isn’t always what you drink.

1/4 30 to 80 days over safe limits in just 3 months. That’s what PM2.5 & PM10 data across parts of #Pune shows for Jan–Mar 2026. This explains why the city saw 0 ‘Good’ #airquality days during this period. 🧵A quick thread on what this means. @PMCPune @sushmadate @HarshadOak
