We take Indian product managers and UI designers for granted. Thought this app's design was incredibly basic because it was new. Turns out it's been around for several years with this clunky UX in other countries. Indian app design people are ruthlessly excellent.
Green SM is such a beaut. Total Uber Black killer — but only if they can just get the app and reliability as good as BluSmart was. For now, a great option if you're going somewhere in zero hurry.

AI sovereignty hawks are having an "I told you so" moment, but without the clarity of even mid-term relief from the US's abrupt decision to cut the rest of the world off from Mythos and Fable. thehindu.com/sci-tech/techno…

The northern storm is even shrinking to avoid Delhi's administrative boundaries. That's how cursed we are.

Would kill for some stats that I can never have, like per capita noise cancelling headphones ownership by district

Frankly, this government is capable of approving Starlink in two days. That they have not done so is obviously driven by a paranoid natsec establishment that does not understand the internet. All this faction needs to do to win everyday is to delay the next step to the next day.
Starlink remains in active and productive discussions with the Government of India contrary to misleading stories based upon unsubstantiated claims from anonymous sources.   We have worked with the Government through all of the required regulatory and compliance processes in a transparent and responsible manner. To align with India's sovereign technology, regulatory and security requirements, Starlink has setup a bespoke deployment model for India that further demonstrates our commitment to working within India’s strategic framework.   We have heard nothing but encouraging feedback on Starlink’s capabilities and its potential to advance India’s connectivity ambitions, especially in remote and underserved regions. We remain fully committed to India and to working with the Government to bring Starlink’s services very soon to the country.

Or worse, "bespoke" could mean no Starlink Roam. Which is such a joke. What's the point if a terminal is not portable? It's cheaper to bribe a BSNL exchange to pull fiber to a remote home anywhere in the country. At best, this means a terminal stops working outside India.

Which would also defeat the point for a good chunk of the target audience. Satellite internet is only a reality if you're outside India and have no plans to bring the terminal into India.

There's no diversity of design or tech stack. They all have that blinking green light, the interpuncts in unnecessary subtitles, the same scroll flourishes... It's all just so lazy

My piece in today’s @the_hindu where I argue that the new “Demography Committee” is not really about addressing India’s demographic challenges, but about paving the way for a new institutional targetting of India’s minorities.

Sacco/PUK ghosted them on the map. Not much they could do. That law isn't going away and it's something even imported magazines deal with. Glad the CEO didn't handwave it away like many Indian creative execs and gave a straightforward statement on why this is happening.
