Thank you @AttorneyCrump for sharing my story on Tyre Nichols.
At a candlelight vigil in his native Sacramento, Tyre Nichols’ brother Jamal said it best: “Tyre wouldn’t stop until justice was served.” Neither will we. His family is surrounded by a strong community of supporters who will not stop fighting. Love, light, and justice for Tyre.

It’s go time in the race for Stockton mayor — Tom Patti is phone banking to try and win over any last minute undecided voters before polls close at 8pm. Patti expects a tight race — he beat his opponent Christina Fugazi in the primary election by about 3,500 votes. @CBSSacramento

What Hope can do: Part 1. I'm so beyond excited for you all to see this story. I've been working on it for months and my three-part series started airing last night. Nick Hope, born Nicolai Choprenko, was just 17 when he found himself at the gates of Dachau concentration camp. He now lives in Northern California, but is from a small town in Ukraine. He wasn't sent to the camp because he was Jewish, but by a twist of fate after Nazis invaded his home in 1941. Right now -- Hope is back at Dachau for an annual ceremony celebrating the camp's end. He turns 100 this year. This is the first part of his incredible story. Please take a few minutes to watch, it would mean a lot to me.

What Hope can do: Part 2 @CBSSacramento Right now, Nick Hope and his son George are back at Dachau concentration camp in Germany at an annual ceremony commemorating the camp's end. He's been in years past - and it's what connected him to Fairfield Army veteran, Dan Dougherty. Dougherty's rifle company helped liberate Dachau that day. Hope was on a death march out of the camp when he saw his freedom in hundreds of American tanks coming to end it all. 75 years later, the two men would discover they lived within an hour of each other all this time after the war. In this second piece in my series, their touching reunion that truly stops time.

A final salute. Here's my story from Lou Conter's funeral on Tuesday. He was given full military honors as hundreds of people showed up to pay their respects. Conter was the last survivor from the USS Arizona battleship when it sank during the attack on Pearl Harbor. There are now fewer than 20 Pearl Harbor survivors still alive today. Rest in Peace to an American hero -- and thank you to the Conter family for letting us be a part of this day.

REMEMBERING A HERO: Lieutenant Commander Lou Conter was the last living survivor of the U.S.S. Arizona. He was aboard the battleship when it was bombed and sank at Pearl Harbor. He passed peacefully in his sleep earlier this month. Ahead of his funeral this morning, I sat down with one of Lou's sons to talk about the incredible legacy he leaves behind. Now more than ever, it's a reminder of why it's so important to share these stories. We have so few firsthand accounts left of this chapter of history. Never forget these service members - and their sacrifices for our freedom.

California Forever - a billionaire backed campaign to build a new city in Solano County - is being accused tonight of deceitfully gathering signatures they need to get their measure on the November ballot. In a statement - the campaign told me the allegations are "misinformation." That contradicts multiple accounts from people in the area who say California Forever signature gatherers tried to get them to sign their petition by telling them it was something else entirely. @CBSSacramento

Capt. Randy Gross served Sacramento Metro Fire faithfully for nearly 30 years. He jumped into action hours after 9/11 to search for survivors in the rubble as part of a California rescue team. In everything he did, his friends tell me he exemplified his faith and his love for his family. Gross died of job-related cancer over the weekend - he is the third Sac Metro firefighter lost to cancer in just six months. @metrofirepio @CBSSacramento

Neighbors in the Dry Creek community of unincorporated Placer County are pushing back on a rush to rezone residential and agricultural land west of Roseville to build new high-density affordable housing units. At a meeting of the West Placer Municipal Advisory Council (MAC), no seat was left empty Wednesday night as the council listened to dozens of concerned community members speak. cbsnews.com/sacramento/news/…

COUNTY VS. STATE. Leaders in El Dorado County and the city of Placerville have found themselves at the center of a lawsuit filed against them by the state of California. The state is suing the local governments after both recently banned drug needle exchange programs - saying that's in violation of state law. The El Dorado County district attorney tells me - they plan to fight this and stand by their ban on the programs. cbsnews.com/sacramento/news/…

SCOTT PETERSON'S PUSH FOR INNOCENCE? This is a story I've been working on for a while now. Whether or not you feel one way or another about Peterson's guilt in the notorious murder of his wife Laci and their unborn son in 2002 - this is worth a read. A former Modesto Fire investigator came forward to me and spoke about why he thinks potentially key evidence in the original case was not properly investigated. It comes as the LA Innocence Project is trying in court to get access to old evidence and for a judge to allow new DNA testing that they believe could support Peterson's "claim of actual innocence."
