#Ethiopia intelligence chief, PM advisor accuse
#TPLF of imminent offensive in ‘coming days’; claim escalates mutual war warnings
Two senior Ethiopian officials have accused the
#Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) of preparing to launch an offensive against the federal government “in the coming days,” warning of a potential relapse into war in the war-torn Tigray region.
In a joint opinion article published by Al Jazeera,
#Getachew_Reda, Minister Advisor for East African Affairs, and
#Redwan_Hussein, Director General of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), alleged that hardline factions within the TPLF are mobilizing for renewed conflict in violation of the Pretoria peace framework that ended the two-year war.
The officials said “the hardline rump of the TPLF has decided to launch an offensive against the federal government in the coming days,” further alleging continued recruitment, training, and armament of fighters with external backing.
The TPLF has not responded to the latest allegations, which come amid what many fear is an escalating tension between
#Addis_Abeba and
#Mekelle. On June 4, TPLF warned that Ethiopia is facing an “imminent and catastrophic war,” accusing the federal government of undermining the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (
#CoHA).
