Researchers at The University of Oklahoma will develop a new radar-based hail sizing algorithm and will retrieve 3D wind motions from radar data observations to drive hail trajectory models.
ICECHIP involves 12 universities, 3 research departments, and other insurance institutes, government agencies, & community groups.
A global cross-disciplinary & interdisciplinary effort with these parties - promoting a high level of collaboration, coordination, & communication.
The ICECHIP field campaign to study hail in May - June 2025 is considered flexible, allowing deployment and the collection of hailstones from Texas to Montana and east towards the Mississippi River, where terrain permits.
